For me its like a staged rehab programme. I was very addicted to this game. Yet, the more i played it and thought about it criticallly, the less I like it.
They charge you the price of a full game per skin. Let that sink in a moment. In a gaming climate where people are pissed off about 10-20 dollar DLC, CCP charges as much for a BPO.
I've heard the constant excuses of how the PS3 cant handle how Dust runs. Grand Theft Auto V seems to handle 1,000 x more content and detail on the PS3 just fine.
The end game is glorified, regularly scheduled Skirmish. So I can have isk? Got plenty. For 'braggin rights?' To which loser am i supposed to brag too?
Gameplay, not much there left either. Everytime I catch somebody off gaurd and he instantly leaps through the air, I feel like switching off the PS3. Everytime i see swarms slowly watch coming to hit me no matter what i do i feel like switching off the PS3. Everytime a tank or dropship is saved backing 5 meters into the redline (because lol MAGIC) I feel switching off thePS3. Every turd i dont have to bother with in any other game i have to deal with here. Dogfights dont end in War Thunder because of magical barriers. There is no flight sim / mode in an FPS where missiles are unavoidable. Exploiting all the bugs (i.e. glitching out uplinks) is 'competitive' play. Massive frame rate drops are a fact of life. Beating the crap out of new players to the extent where vets have utterly killed the growth of this game is adressed in Dust's THIRD YEAR.
There's very little to convince me to switch on dust, other than WB components and switching off again. Nothing the keys will give me i dont have. Already have 2.2 million unallocated SP. Every gun, every suit i like, every vehicle at my disposal. Me and my friends play H1Z1, so i have my buddies with me anyway.
Today is patch day, so I will check out Aquistion. I don't know if it will rekindle the old spark, in fact it probably wont. Doesn't mean i wont play dust from time to time, but man, is it getting harder and harder to talk myself into putting up with it. Why deal with a 3-7 minute wait for a pub match? Why deal with the frame rate drops? Why play on the same map over and over and over again? Why wait months for the Devs to fix the smallest of errors? We have had regular hotfixes for matchmaking algorightms, but heaven forbid we have a simple hotfix for the AHMG, or remove mandatory small blasters on solo tanks.
The proffesional practice of changing something, know what you changed, know that it doesn't work as intended, know where to go to fix it, and simply not act for months is something i frankly dont have the patience for anymore. It not that i doubt that that the Shanghai Devs are working hard. But when i ask myself exactly how many manhours should it take to look up something like AHMG dispersion, and type a new value, months (!) is not a satisfactory answer.
Ranted much longer than i expected. But hey I have everything I could want in Dust. I cant say it was a waste of time, or money. I got what i paid for, and i did my part to make sure dust is a profitable business. I have good frineds and had some good times. And once you no longer have good times, well, its time to move on. Hopefully, as i check in from time to time it will change. Devs, prove me wrong.

Quick note; simulators often don't feature the missiles in question as they're very unfun as we enter an age of warfare where defenses are becomming extinct and its becomming a matter of finding the other guy first; and shooting him before he has a chance to shoot. Simulators in 2100 is going to be boring. As for recent examples don't have to look far back. Ukraine had the unpleasantness of dealing with one such system
FYI Since your an EVE guy, and not the piloting sort, I could tell you about Ace Combat, Jets in Battlefield 4 popping flares to break missile lock, or a mechanic Its something that has been implemented in multiplayer and single player games since the 90's. Nearly 20 years. But that would fall on deaf ears of a self important nobody.
Thanks for 'saving' your explanation from me. I'm sure you have wonderful insight as one of the orignal coders for dust, or from your extensive resume as a game developer currently in CCP's employ. Right?

Not going to take issue with you if you're not enjoying the game - that's totally cool and it's your sincere opinion. But on the subject of charging for dropsuits - I made an early decision not to buy them and to buy boosters instead. This is working out for me fine and I've never felt the urge to buy a quafe or anything else because the game doesn't force me to. GTA V is a giant game - but it's also a boring game with juvenile humour and rubbish mechanics. the best thing about it is the driving - the shooting is and always has been awful. When it comes to shooty action DUST has it beaten hands down. There is no argument. I wanted to play a shooter and that's why DUST is my go to PS3 game and has been for nearly 2 years... think about that for a moment. What game lasts 2 years these days???
I agree with alot of this. Like I said, I don't regret any purchase I've made. I put my money into a product I believe in. That said, its hard for me personally to justify spending any more.
In terms of go-to-shooter, yeah, Dust (especially in a squad) is better. My comparison to GTA V was terms of peformance issues and what the PS3 can handle. I think in terms of scope, Assasin's Creed Black Flag (while not really being a multiplayer online game, its heart and soul is in theoffline campain) is much, much larger than GTA V. But when something like Nanohive spam destroys framerate, arrgg, it makes my blood boil.
I don't begrudge the current team on performance issues. I can't they are not the ones who built the shaky foundation they stand upon, adn are not tasked with re-writing Dust from the ground up. Not thier fault, and they are trying to clean up the old tennants mess. Over time, it just wore me down to the point where i am where i am at today. Engaging full bitter vet mode.
Sigh, still gonna go blap some fools this afternoon and see how warlords 1.1. pans out.
