I had a friend try this game out some time ago, back when not even mu was a thing. He liked it and said it was a fairly decent shooter with fun guns. He especially liked the Ion Pistol (FREEDOOOOOOM). However, he couldn't play more than three matches after Academy because of the ROFLSTOMP.

I asked him to try it again recently what with the new matchmaking and all that, and he said "holy ****! The matches are actually balanced! This game isn't bad anymore"

I shed a tier.. Mind you, he still hasn't unlocked anything, so he has the original 4 stater fits only. I told him to only worry about cores first.

 EDIT: Yay! Player retention!

If the other team was a bunch of randoms then they were given a numbers advantage (12v14 or something similar).

Later in the night, the squad sized dropped to 3 - 4. We started getting placed in matches were the other team had a full squad or two. Our team always outnumbered their team. It worked. Even though they were higher tiered players we stood a chance.

It's running off the vets though.

People say it's because of fear of competition, but it's more than that. Many veterans have played the game so long without proper incentives to win matches. So many of the solo players just don't have the stomach for pushing in waves to win matches.

Most of my matches are borefests that end with a wide margin on the MCC. Usually if you take the high ground the match is over. Take the high ground from them if they got it first and the match is over. Sniping, redline tanking, tower FGs, etc. I end up going like 6-4 dying while trying to find a red dot to shoot at.

I'm glad it's better for newer players, but the veteran player tier is a mess.

It's been much, much better for me in PC.

I had problems yesterday but I think it's an issue with my ISP as I had problems in pubs too.

Im not sure if this has ever been addressed, prolly has but i can't find it.

Is there any correlation/ connection between lag increases and having EVE pilots on district?

Winning is the only incentive we should need if we're not afraid of competition. While I don't like it, I'll throw away millions to help my team win.... and then they just keep respawning in the redline or on a tower that only snipers and FG's can get them.
So unfortunately I guess I'm the only one that considers winning a proper incentive.

Cross, is there any chance you could poke CCP to see if the new Matchmaking has improved new player retention? It may still be too early to draw firm conclusions, and I'm sure they'd want to express the differences in the form of % change instead of hard numbers (for business reasons), but this would be really great to know. Maybe a blog or forum post.

 Squad priority!

That's what we need! Yes, the MU is working, but almost too well now. So now we have matches that are 4 v 12 etc.

A player, with low MU, can still do very well if he's in squad!

Scotty should be obligated to build matches from squads available, and formed up!

Example: 5 squads available looking for public contract.

 Squad 1: 5 mercs
 Squad 2: 4 mercs
 Squad 3: 6 mercs
 Squad 4: 6 mercs
 Squad 5: 5 mercs

Based on MU, scotty should pit these squads against one another. Squad 3 and 4 should be placed first, evenly matched in numbers, and against each other. Even if the MU isn't even they have the numbers advantage.

The remaining 3 squads, based on MU, should then be selected to fill the two teams. Squads 1 and 5 would put both teams at 11 mercs a piece. The final squad of 4 can either be added to one team, or queued for the next battle. Leaving the rest of the team to be filled by solo mercs, or 1-2 man squads.

This may increase wait time, but it will encourage squading to shorten wait times and increase performance.

If you just must play solo, then you must understand, as this game is team based, that you will likely not do as well as you would if you were in squad.

He is in the academy level. He, and all the mercs against him, seem to be militia and straight out of Academy. He told me he only saw two protos, but the blues actually stood a chance.

Also, he was in a solo squad. He said he faced a full squad of all the same Corp, but everyone pretty much performed the same.

He said he'll keep playing Dust and see how it turns out. I told him to chronicle his experience over at the forums, but he didn't feel like it, so I posted instead.

Also, he's my recruit, so I can't wait to get that BPO if he decides to stay a bit longer than I expect him to.

He even told me about one fun match where all the objectives kept changing sides quite often and both teams doing excellent pushes.

In a way, I envy him.
