So, of late I haven't been playing much on the tank side. Just too expensive at times (I run a killer soma from time to time now). But I did make up an AV fit for those occasions (rare of late) when I play a mode that allows tanks.
I see many complaints on the ineffectiveness of AV. I've even joined in the discussion and agreed that double reps with double hardeners does seem quite invincible. But I do want to call some of you out on this as some believe that all there is to being AV is throwing on an AV main weapon.
Not saying that double reps and hardeners doesn't need some tweaking (my reps at 5 seconds over per second would do very nicely I still think). But I've come against many tank types, notably those running double reps hardeners and those running double hardeners, plate, rep.
Double Reps - Double hardeners
Drop like a sack of potatoes. My AV fit is as follows:
-Adv non specialized suit -Pro Plasma cannon -Bolt Pistol -Pro Packed AV nades -Prox mines -Myofibs -Plates
And it's pretty solid when it comes to tank busting. First plasma round drops shields, follow with a few packed nades. If those don't get it, a quick reload and final plasma round will usually do the trick. If not, the things limping away. This is generally with those hardeners up. If you drop that plasma round followed with the nades though, often they don't even have time to turn them on.
And this is just considering a Pro tank, as you drop in tiers, the quality of mods equipped drop, thus making it a bit easier to kill.
Then I also have my prox mines, which often catch an LAV zipping around, but also catches those tanks off guard when placed right. Sometimes outright killing a tank. If not, I've done my damage and forced it back or weakened it enough to make a quick kill if I'm nearby.
The double reps and double hardener fit though just can't stand at all to burst DPS at all, but it has to happen in a VERY short period of time. 2 packed nades and a shot from your main gun though is often enough to drop them.
Double hardened - Plate - Rep
Honestly, this setup is much easier to down, because as you wear it down, it doesn't magically rep back to full immediately. Doing the same as above will drop it's health considerably but it will often require a few more shots to drop. Though any progress you have made towards killing it isn't instantly canceled out by that one rep.
You can actually wear it down bit by bit until if finally goes boom. But it does take a bit of work and time.
Conclusion Now, I'm not saying AV is fine, but I honestly don't have such a terrible time at it as some do. That is if I rely on everything at my disposal, I can get the job done solo. Though if I were to try to sit back from a distance (which I WON'T do), I would never come close to breaking a tank.
And being a tanker myself, I do understand a bit about how they think and work. Which directions will they come from, what area's will they avoid, common paths they take, ect. And not to say that it's easy to do, without some deaths along the way. But considering I'm dropping a million ISK tank at times or at the very least one worth double or triple my own fit, I consider that acceptable.
So what are your fit's and how do you AV?

HAH, how I hate that tactic. Don't know if I could ever bring myself to use it. (though I might try it one of these days)

With a gunner I hope, cause those things barely dent my armor tank.

spawn on your starter fit with swarm launchers and stand on the middle of the road infront of a tank. Then try to shot the tank with the swarm launcher. Thats probs the most effective way to be AV these days.
And I would disagree there. I tend to blow a tank up once I have my eyes set on it with infantry AV. If I don't, it's usually because they are running with fear.

Yup, that's how I run my forge alt. Haven't tried it with the new changes to AV nades, but I imagine it would be FAR easier than how I do it with a plasma cannon. Much easier to follow up successor shots too with a forge.

(though I might try it one of these days) Its the only thing thats even remotely (HA HA PUNS) effective against double rep double hardener unless the tank driver is stupid enough to just sit there and let you chuck grenades at it. I made a logi fit with 3 remote explosive types + nanohives, and my friend has free LAV BPO, he would bring one down, I would spam my remotes on it, he would spam one set of his own from his BPO min assault suit, and then he'd be off to the races. We've done this set up a few games and its pretty hilarious.
Well, it's not about them sitting there and taking it. I can fire a plasma cannon round, followed by 2 AV nades in just a matter of a few seconds. So basically you can cause some serious alpha damage before they can even react.
