Hola everybody
What do you guys think of Fixed Artillery Installation (FAI) on Dom maps?
Example. On the bridge map, there would be on each side a FAI. Once captured, it would show the user the map, similar as the warbage strike process, and show the range of the installation. The maximum range would be ideally, the point in the middle of the bridge. The user clicks the desired spot and the FAI starts shooting in regular intervals said location.
It would have the heat mechanic shared by the Heavy Railgun Installation but one-shot instead of four. A redline paint would be used as the range of the FAI. Also the turret does not have to be 100% accurate.
It would give some support to the attacking side and create more tactical force to use.
It would also be a good model to work on future Artillery placements. My final idea would be to have bigger maps and incorporate landscape design that would have FAI as a permanent addition. Think of the Normandy beach, in the back the Axis had Artillery to bomb the beaches. For us, would be to use the WHOLE crater map and have locations in the mountains as fixed FAIs to shoot at the center of it.
Opinions? Thoughts?
My inspiration came from a couple of videos but the urge to write about it came after:

Sure, why not.
But on maps this small, that's a mortar, not artillery.
Some details can be ignored

There's no real set definition for any difference between mortars and arty, and technically mortars are usually just small, muzzle loading artillery pieces. There's rocket artillery as well.
Besides, maybe arty has bs space range issues like ARs do, since mine had no problem reaching out to ~450m in Afghanistan. |

Edit: I like the idea, but I think making it manual only would be better.
Manual aiming would include a number of assets to be made from scratch such as the arc that will show you were the target will hit and others that I do not know.
But it also potentially opens the door for wind disturbance on the trajectory. This then could affect as well the bullets of each gun, except Lazors because they are Lazors.
I do not know if I would like it manually or the map screen. Last time I played an FAI was Call of Duty, like the second one, a long time go.
P.S. If moderator could move this to Features and Ideas, where it belongs, would be awesome. Sorry for posting on GD.

Sorry, I meant manual as in it would have to be fired by a person on it, not shooting on its own. I think it would definitely be better from the map screen. |

I like the idea but not the placement, any artillery instillaions should be far away from the objective on a DOM map and allow the other team something to capture and aid them taking the objective from the enemy team. i.e. shelling the aformentioned bridge from a distance.
