Assault Rifles have: -second lowest alpha -second lowest DPS -shortest range -worst falloff
"Basic ARs are balanced and in a good spot right now"
Can someone explain this to me? It doesn't make sense.
The other AR variants win out in the DPS contest by a modest margin, but still have some other limiting factor preventing them from being really good in comparison to their counter parts in the other rifles.
Are people still afraid of the days when the AR was good because it was the only rifle around?

Not enough info for me.
Throw me... damage per clip Recoil True alpha (DPS against shields- automatic weapons should have alpha damage judged by the amount of damage they do in the first second, not in the first shot) **** it, reload speed too aaaaand fashionaaabluh rating.
Not trying to disprove you, just getting a better view of the situation.

basic AR is good at what it does, use it in the effective range and you'll see what I mean by this
there is no other way of putting it then simply saying that you are doing it wrong

Hmm, Considering that I am currently doing better with the AR over any other gun I've skilled into, and I am not at proto with any, save for the CR.. I find the gun to be a useful tool in the right hands.
Maybe you should try something else?
I keep hearing about how the AR sucks, but I just don't see it, my kdr has improved since switching, so that's got to mean something. Then again, ... maybe its the way you play. Its great in close to mid range, the burst model is kinda fun, I also love the breach,

Your initial assuptions are not quite accurate. You're comparing the Assault rifle to the RR, CR, and Scrambler rifle, rather than the appropriate assault variants of each. Things look a little different if you match variants
"Assault" Variants (Assault Rifle, Assault Rail Rifle, Assault Scrambler Rifle, Assault Combat Rifle) DPS: AScr>AR>ACR>ARR Damage Per Magazine: AScr>ARR>AR>ACR Reload Speed: AScr>ACR>AR>ARR Optimal Range: ARR>ACR>AScr>AR Effective Range: ARR>AScr>ACR>AR
"Breach" Variants (Breach Assault Rifle, Rail Rifle) DPS: BrAR>RR Damage Per Magazine: RR>BrAR Reload Speed: BrAR>RR Optimal Range: RR>BrAR Effective Range: RR>BrAR
"Tactical" Variants (Tactical AR, Scrambler Rifle) DPS: TAR>Scr Damage Per Magazine: Scr>TAR Reload Speed: Scr>TAR Optimal Range: Scr>TAR Effective Range: Scr>TAR
"Burst" Variants (Burst AR, Combat Rifle) DPS: BuAR>CR Damage Per Magazine: BuAR>CR Reload Speed: CR>BuAR Optimal Range: CR>BuAR Effective Range: CR>BuAR

I think it has to do with firing mechanics.
Like, take the scrambler. It has heat and reload and dispersion and recoil. Whereas the AR only has reload, dispersion, and recoil. Also the AR and CR get a sharpshooter skill -- something the SR and RR don't get.
Now I am not saying that things are super balanced. I am just saying that the theory is to balance the difference with these mechanics.
Practical Damage application is a stat that is never talked about. How easy is it to get all the bullets to hit your target? Its easier on the AR than the RR for example. But that is not mentioned in comparison pretty much ever.
Or dispersion at close range as opposed at long range. Those two are never separated in comparison as well. Dispersion is bad in some situations and good in others.
So while I am not making any assertions on how the AR should be balanced vs the other guns (i too think that it is a bit too far behind the other guns in many areas considering the huge range disadvantage that it has) I am saying that we kind of need to compare it practically as well as numerically.
TL;DR: Firing mechanics matter. |
