After reviewing the Dev blog, I speculated about 5 possible impacts the new matchmaking system could have an effect on gameplay, now that Dust 514's userbase has been publicly informed on how the matchmaking system works. If you don't know what the heck I'm talking about, here's the blog, http://dust514.com/news/blog/2015/04/introducing-matchmaking-engine/
Sorry no video today, this is just a mental review exercise. Here are the possibilities.
1.There will be attempts by certain types players to cheat the invisible system. Most likely not players watching themselves on the leaderboard or players obsessed with staying PC ready, but rather players whoGÇÖve settled into middling pub performance will start trying to control their place in the system so they can "smash noobies".
2.Snipers just went from useless to being subtlely detrimental to your team. K/D factoring in a player's worth increases the likelihood of snipers being assessed as far more useful then that actually are. A sniper no longer just useless on your team but is also increasing the likelihood you being matched against stronger, more useful players.
3. Running around with no care for deaths or warpoints will result in steadily easier matches. While players with no concern for warpoints will skill up a slower pace and suffer losses, running around with no concern for performance will result in easier matches, which result in less care for performance, and a vicious cycle enctrenching said player in his scrubery.
4. Proto suits make life permanently harder for you opponents. Specifically, the ones who destroy them. In addition, you are doing your opponent a favour by running blueprint suits. Think about it. If his total GÇ£worthGÇ¥ in the system is partly determined by how much ISK he has destroyed, his kill on your 200k ISK suit ratchets up his value in the system and forces him to fight more difficult opponents in his future games. Meanwhile, opponents destroying your blueprint suit donGÇÖt get hit with this ratchet quite as much and can continue to fight easier opponents during their career.
5.Stat rigging squads may let their letters turn red for a large portion of the game, then make a comeback, so that remaining MCC strength doesnGÇÖt ratchet up their value in the system. Potentially frustrating situation for newer players.
This is not a call for a tearing down of the new system, or a series of guaranteed outcomes, just PURE SPECULATION.
Just to be clear I think some kind of system for matchmaking is neccesary, without something in place, constant noobie stomping killfests kill the flow of new players into the game which would eventually result in the death of the game itself. (I think Rattati's [and possibly other devs] changes to date are the only reason Dust 514 has held on as long as it did).
