Scenario: I was running a scout G/1 in a pubskirm yesterday. I'm running up some stairs to gleefully shotgun a single red dot in the back. I get to the top, through the door and there is my target, an Amarr assault. BUT, on the other side of the door is two sentinels and some logis, all facing me, never showed on the tacnet until I had visual, which occurred simultaneously with my violent death. Is there any rational explanation for this? Scans are under 30 on that fit. |

There are some sentinel fittings out there that sacrifice their tankiness for profile damps
I find your lack of heaviness... disturbing...

Enough to get down to 26?!
This was just one example. I run into surprise heavies all the time, don't you guys?

Which Sentinel (for slots, they all have the same base profile)? I'm going to assume Amarr.
3 complex damps give 27.18 dB, 4 makes it 25.26 dB. Awfully squishy though.
Also 30 would be your short range precision (I believe, never really cared enough to pay attention to how the new passive scanning works) which is the inner circle on tacnet.
Edit: This was based on your original post.

Yes, it happens to me often enough to be noticeable. Happened again today actually.
One second, tac clear, next second, Sentinel 5m away.
It isn't damp Sents. It happens on my proto scout.
EWAR is just sketchy. I convinced of it.

Yeah, it isn't just sents though, it's entire squads. Is terrain or structure factored into scan fidelity intentionally? Or is this just the result of errant code? |

The current situation of eWar is f*cked. I run either Cal Scout to stretch my most precise scans, or run with an active scanner.

I'd rather the scout suit bonus were changed to -some percent to falloff range for passive scans... Makes more sense for a SCOUT than the current cloak thing
However, with that change, cloaks would have to have their fitting cost reduced, as no suit would be able to use them.
And who the hell cares about having a cloaked Commando? Or assault? They'd show up on passives anyways, unless they dampen up, in which case it would be balanced as they had to give something up to make it really effective

I do run into such heavies, but such players sacrifice too much tank to have such a low profile which makes it easy even for my ZN-28 Nova Knives to kill them.

The terrain seems to be intentionally designed to block of even the strongest passive scans. However, an active scanner can still see through it effectively. Buildings, however, are still easy to see through with passive scans and they don't affect your passive scans.
Cloaks on the other hand do have about a 80% or more scan range reduction penalty when activated.

intentionally, lmao ;P
passive scanning is broken, especially on some maps/specific places.

Ewar updates at intervals.
It's possible to run a scout into a fatty's loving arms in the time it takes EWAR to update. This update is further delayed by your ping.
Just like it's possible for my assault to detect a scout just after the shotgun blast shaves my back.

Lag. The game is loading from a server. Things aren't whar they seem. People aren't where they really are. I regularly have to deal with this.

This has been going on for sometime now and should have changed after the vehicle signature changes but they could be right upon you ... you hear them and see them and everything but they just don't show on the tac .
HAV's do it too sometimes .
I think it's the tac as well being screwed and not players using damps , yes people do it but not as many as I have noticed incidents for this occasion and what's the excuse for the vehicles ?
They need a performance patch to get rid of the glitches and check the bonuses and things like this to make sure that everything works and is applying .
Doubts are like flies and should be treated as such and crushed . #PubsShouldBeRandomPlayers

TACNET has a delay in registering has been for a while. Like it takes a second to kick in, seemingly more when sprinting cause I guess TACNET can't always keep up with how your moving. Recommend slightly less sprinting and more peeking around corners, to make sure its your TACNET delay and not something else.

I have seen the lag in EWAR more heavily when certain atmospheres are active. I was in with ash yesterday and my EWAR was aweful on my CAL scout, but I could tell theirs was bad too. So it leveled out. It has to do with rendering and registering is my assumption. The order of layers processed seems to give the system hell for TACNET which is the second to last thing to get updated. The last is the gun sight register in my experience. Just know that when you go to sprint around a corner, pause and wait for the passive TACNET to catch up. If you are having issues, they are too, so use it. They can't trust their TACNET either so it is time for a cloak sprint RE drop boom!
Ok, I hate REs and Blues. So I am going to use them until they stop me!

My std amarr heavy has a scan profile db of 27 with 3 PRO profile dampeners
that explains enough.
