A Dust 514 version of the classic game Tower Defense.
New Assets Required: (Potentially) None!
New Code Required: Simple AI following a predefined path (no initial need for new combat AI) Dropping your own OMS (turrets) Changing Battleserver code for gametypes of one team vs AI
How It Works: AI controlled vehicles/drones/mercs drop or spawn far in the redline on the opposite side of the map. The AI controlled enemies then follow a defined path (either winding or straight) to where the players spawn. The players' objective is to destroy the AI controlled enemies, gather WP to drop OMS turrets, and survive a certain number of rounds. As the rounds progress, the AI spawns in more units that get tougher and potentially faster, but players get more isk, sp, or loot the longer they survive. Players can also respawn in between rounds. The players lose when a certain number of units get to the end of their path.
Future Iterations: 1) Scale up the number of units and the directions they come from, setting up for a Horde/Zombies type gamemode. 2) Code the ability to fire upon both players and towers, making the gamemode more challenging. 3) Drone Hive search and destroy while continuing to defend the 'end of path' point.

One would think remaking versions of classic games or gametypes wouldn't be too hard, but I'm sure that there is a *lot* going on behind the scenes that we don't know about. I figured that since this particular gametype wouldn't require new assets it might be a bit more feasible.

To make this game mode easier to implement, I would tweak this idea.
I would prefer that the dust mercs were the "minions" and we had to navigate a path of very strong AI turrets to get to some goal at the end of the map. You would hack a turret to deactivate them (but not turn them), etc.
I got enemies,
got a lot of enemies
, got a lot of people tryna drain me of this energy

Naturally, that would be a nice thing to have. Too bad we can realistically expect nothing radical like that to come true.

No. It don't fits in Dust meta. Maybe make something like "supply convoy". Almost same as op said. Some tanks are controlled by AI and following some path, Objective of one team is to destroy these tanks(they're very tough) and other team must defend them. Tanks regenerate over time to prevent AV rushing of attackers team. When all tanks are destroyed or travelled to their destination, match ends. Every team gets rewards based on their score and divided between players (attackers get reward for every tank destroyed, defenders for every tank survived). |
