What makes EVE great is that the stakes are much higher in the risk vs. ISK department. Losses can hurt a lot more, which really amps up the adrenalin. Not all combat is just clicking F1 either. In the beginning it's pretty basic, but it can ramp up to being much more complicated. Good pilots will manually fly instead of just clicking "orbit." Trying to maintain position, manage modules, capacitor, heat, ammo, boosters, while constantly reevaluating the threats around you is very intense.
RvB is a good choice if you're looking for PvP. As for PvE, you could get into low, null, or wormhole exploration. That's more of a cat/mouse play style where you're trying to get as much ISK as you can while evading people are trying to scan you down and gank you.
Best PvE idea ever!

You'll realistically get about 6 months out of it before you get bored and fed up with gate campers and low/null being full of babies and b!tches. |

Only if you're highly social and enjoy a fairly slow in game experience. EVE is great, but requires a specific type of person to really enjoy it.
If immersion is what you're after, wait for SC, but EVE definitely has it's appeal as well. It's far too slow paced / socially oriented for my liking, though pvp is faster paced sort of.

To sum it up quickly.... EVE is an amazing and complex game that is TOTALLY worth getting into if you have....
1. A lot of patience. 2. A lot of free time (I mean a lot!) 3. Are a big fan of spaceships / sci fi settings.
To go further into it.....
Eve has a crazy amount of stuff to offer a player and contrary to popular belief, PVP can be fun, engaging and fast paced..... as long as you are in small fights and not part of a massive blob fest.
Playing as a logistics pilot in eve small gang fights is hardcore intense! -Micro managing your range to stay in range of friendly pilots to repair them while staying far enough away from enemy as to not get caught or killed. - Micro managing your capacitor to keep your speed up, your reps going constantly and possibly more active modules. If your cap drains, you are screwed.
It just requires that you are not the type to give up easily...... this is the way of EVE from my experience.

Absolutely. The trick to EVE is to surround yourself with people that you like and doing group activities.
Awhile back I was doing some ratting out in Delve and me and a buddy would run 8/10 DED sites and we would both run them together, 1-3 a day or so. I'd bring my utility Dominix with remote reps and cap transfers and he would bring a Legion around and kill all the small stuff while I get the battleships with my Geckos.
It was probably doable solo but doing it with a friend made it much more tolerable, especially scouting through 6+ jumps through NPC nullsec in a blingy battleship.
I think the most fun thing we did was me in my Dominix, same guy in a Bhaalgorn with remot cap transfer, a kity shield Ishtar and a Vargur all doing an 8/10. Still took forever to kill the central bastion and the payout was barely 30M split but it was a ton of fun.

One day after a nice WeeWoo fleet (Police Pursuit Comets) we were doing some deplexing in Auga.
I say on comms "Gonna go check out the medium plex" I warp, see a frigate in dscan I take the gate and notice that it's unmanned.
This was after the combat recon changes where they no longer show up on dscan so I quickly warp off.
My guess is this guy was just coming back after leaving a ship there as a bait and he would sit inside with his dscan immune Lachesis.
I let everyone know on comms and I warp back to the medium plex. He lands at the same time as me but he warped 20 off. I burn in and point him, and tell everyone on comms to warp to me. "Lachesis tackled at the medium gate"
kill
He died as I had 3% structure. I absolutely love the group aspects of the game.
