I would say so, yes.
However, it depends on how well you can handle a game that doesn't give you very much direction and is full of people who aren't very nice.

I'll just wait for Star Citizen. I have pledged for that game. However, it is specifically designed NOT to be as open and player-driven as EVE Online, so I definitely won't be "switching" or anything like that.
Also, I only went for a starter pack because I consider the Persistent Universe to be vapourware until proven otherwise.

I guess I'm the kind of guy that just works with a game like EVE. I can't be bothered doing spreadsheets, I don't give a **** about min-maxing 300mill ISK/hr or quitting because I can't PLEX 10 AFK-Ishtar farming accounts, I don't worry about my killboard stats. I just seek awesome, adrenaline-pumping fun fighting in ultra-cheap frigates in FW, and I find it. When I go poor I grind up a little ISK and repeat.
One person will never be able to tell you the full story of EVE. One forum thread asking people what EVE is isn't enough either. Hell, playing EVE won't give you the full picture of EVE. It's a game that leaves you a story to tell, one unique compared to every other player, unlike the other RPGs with shallow storylines that throw you in with the rest as 'the good guys'.
I did get burnt out for a bit but I'm back now (to the detriment of my DUST playtime). CCP's games have that sticking quality, I suppose. You play the same way I do. I am almost constantly "space poor".
I'm not into building or selling things, but I'm more than happy to help the economy by destroying things so the owners will buy more things.
