My second thread today. Don't shoot me as I've grown quite accustomed to this clone.
Okay let's get straight to it.
My idea here is to follow in the footsteps of EVE Online and bring in skillbooks that are meant only for squad leaders. EVE has passive skills for each leadership role that affects all those under their leadership, which betters the overall hierarchy altogether. We have nothing like that yet but we should, and here's why.
1. It gives players who are interested in leading squads an SP and ISK sink to get into. 2. It changes the dynamics of squad leading. Would you rather have a squad leader that's focused more into Caldari Mantra Warfare or one that's into Gallente Mantra Warfare? One that's skilled into long-distance combat or close quarters combat? 3. It will separate the real squad leaders from the wannabes. 4. It will make the squad leader role much more prominent.
Of course I can only make very broad suggestions because I don't know what will truly make or break the game but my suggestions are as followed for Skillbooks:
Faction based-
Gallente Mantra Warfare - Passive squad buffs in plasma weaponry, armor repair, active scanners, etc Caldari Mantra Warfare - Passive squad buffs in rail tech weaponry, shield durability, dampeners, etc Amarr Mantra Warfare - Passive squad buffs in thermal weaponry, armor durability, droplinks, etc Minmatar Mantra Warfare - Passive squad buffs in projectile weaponry, remote explosives, grenades, etc
*Another idea would be to only allow someone with a certain rank in FW to buy their respective Mantra booklets
Non-Faction based -
Long Range Combat - Passive squad buff to optimal range Close Quarters Combat - Passive squad buff to reloading and melee Hijacking Maneuvers - Passive squad buffs to hacking Mobile Maneuvers - Passive squad buffs to mobility and stamina Vehicular Warfare - Passive squad buff to vehicles (this is for someone who's running a small squad that's focused on vehicles and vehicle support) Stealth Maneuvers - Passive buff to passive dampeners, passive scans, and etc Logistical Maneuvers - Passive buffs to equipment bandwidth and durability (to EMPs).
-
Final Words?
I haven't stated it before but just making it clear that each passive would only offer a slight boost. Nothing game-breaking. Nothing that would drastically change the game. Just passive buffs that will help a player's squad go the extra mile in whatever their goal is. These passives should only take affect once someone is a squad leader so there's no doubling of passives going on at all. I believe sooner or later we should get something like this but it's not my decision of course. It will help the game as well as the squad leader role.

Well if you want it that way we could make it so there's an actual companion book in the store that you could equip to the equipment modules but...
At the end of the day, I'd think it would be better to just keep them as actual skills. Raise the SP sink into these skills so that you really have to choose which one you want or if you want them at all. That way, if you've gotten them all you actually deserve to have all of those benefits.

If only 1 buff can be used per squad, then I can see this working.
Something similar to EVE how the there's 1 Squad Booster.

Right now there's no way to do such that would make sense. At least, to my knowledge. I'd still say leave it as is and just make it so that it's actually an SP sink instead of just an easy skill to collect and master.
