Shame I'm one of the people that are 20 boxes in and don't have a single BPO (or anything else I'll ever use) to show for it. Guess it's just white noise to try and tempt me to buy Aurum to pay for keys then.
A useless feature I knew would be nothing but frustration and as luck would have it... that's exactly what it has been for me. Guess I'll just ignore the damned things and open them in bulk in a couple years down the road.
To clarify and not just complain here's my thoughts:
Gamble boxes in ANY game make me feel like crap as a consumer. The devs talk about all these alleged awesome things I can pull from these things, and then tell me the price in real money (which is what they're normally designed primarily for, people that drop $20 and buy nothing but keys to open enmasse). I open box after box in Dust 514 and get random items for skills I don't have, and fittings I'll never use. I get random vehicles for skills I don't have and will never take, and I have no way of knowing what I'm getting or if I'll even need it.
It's something I should be excited to open, but since I'm one of the people that doesn't have max everything there's a VERY SLIM chance that anything I pull out of those boxes will be useful to me. Caldari Proto and Adv. Gallente you'd think I'd get a fair amount of stuff I can use right? Nope. Vehicles, HMGs, Sniper rifles. No skills to use any of it. It piles up in my inventory and I can't do anything with it. Never want to. Never plan to.
So devs still get to say, "It's all good stuff, guys!" but realistically nobody pulling stuff from the boxes will get a lot of stuff they will enjoy. You guys want to make them more enjoyable? Make boxes for specific races drop.
For example:
Caldari Boxes (Only Caldari racial items or items a Caldari would use)
Frontline Vehicle Boxes (HAVs or HAV specific modules/weapons)
Support Boxes (Logistics suits, modules and/or vehicles)
And ALSO make hacked keys work for all of them. That way when I get a box I will KNOW I will get something I want or at the very least will USE in SOME KIND of fitting. Current boxes are far too broad and 90% of the stuff I've pulled out of them has been useless.
I like that I can open a box daily for free, but if I had more of a choice I might actually be able to enjoy what comes out of the stupid things.
