So I've been thinking recently about what aspects of Chromosome felt better. I have come to the conclusion that the weapon balance felt better due to a smaller pool to choose from.
Snipers and Laser rifles - long range but poor CQC performance Assault rifles - Mid range and jack of all trades SMG's, HMG's, pistols, shotguns - short range good CQC performance Mass Drivers, Forge guns, swarms - speciality weapons
However now with the greater variety of weapons I feel this balance has become somewhat muddled. For example in the rifle class there is now a significant disparity in performance at different ranges based on what racial weapon you choose.
My goal is to give each class of weapon clear defined pros and cons. I would rebalance the weapons like so (please note this is just me brainstorming).
Rifles
- I would reduce the disparity between them in terms of Range, Damage, ROF and use the damage profiles against shield and armour, handling and unique characteristics (spool up time, overheat etc) to give them flavour.
- Assault variants (AR,BrAR,ACR,ARR,ASR) - These would be the baseline performers for the rifles. Good at mid range, average at CQC (I'd reduce the hipfire accuracy to make it so you would need to burst the more in CQC to keep them effective)
- Burst and Semi auto variants would be more accurate at range than the full auto weapons, but be less effective in CQC.
SMG's
- I would move these to the light weapon slot, however they would clearly outperform the rifles in CQC (tighter hipfire spead, more DPS, faster side to side movement in ADS). They would begin to struggle in the mid range though and be outclassed by the rifles.
- It would be nice to have all racial SMG's to round out the class.
Snipers and Lasers.
- Lasers and snipers seem in a good place covering the long range.
Shotguns
- Kings of extreme close range, dont think i need to say more than that,
Pistols
- like where the pistols are right now. For example the bolt pistol would complement a shotgun or SMG, and and Ion pistol would complement a combat rifle.
HMG's, Mass Drivers, Forge Guns, Swarms etc - I would leave as is.
Any constructive comments would be appreciated.

Jack-of-all-trade "Fine Rifles" are bad for balance. If the Rifle has a scope, it is bad up close and good down range. If the Rifle doesn't, it is good up close and bad down range.
A competent riflemen will tend to fit a complementary sidearm. Short-range riflemen will tend to carry MagSecs and Bolt Pistols. Long-range riflemen will tend to carry Scrambler Pistols, Ion Pistols and SMGs.
Shoot scout with yes.

I'm not proposing that rifles be a jack off all trades now. I was stating that I felt they where in Chromosome.
Like I stated I'd have rifles perform well in the mid range and average in QCQ.
