I just realised today there literally no reason why we can't appease the entire player base by linking these games.
If were going to be able to transfer our SP and character info from dust to legion as the dev's propose why not simply have both games share the same information so your playing the same EvE character between the two games.
This way dust can continue as its own game, legion can be released on PC, dust can eventually make it to PS4 and the entire playerbase can be happy with whatever platform they want to play on.
SP, equipment, fittings, everything standard your character collects from one game is shared between the two. unique items on dust cannot be used in legion and vice versa however. If both games share the same scalability when it comes to rewards per time spend playing nether game gives a player a larger advantage in the other.
The main differences between the two games would be game play features and game modes. dust would have a focus as a first person shooter and legion would allow our dust player to explore new eden in a more detailed and connected way.
does this seem mad or does it actually solve a lot of issues?

Where did you read that? The last I heard the dev team working on dust are also working on legion, but aside from that do you find the idea useful or a waste of time? this seems to solve the entire problem for what platform this game should move too in the near future (next year or two)

Squagga wrote:From what I got out of it, DUST is a console game. The idea was that DUST would end and LEGION would be the future of DUST. This didn't over so hot with the DUST community ... which in the all seeing eyes of CCP is who would play LEGION, with some EVE players. So more or less the project was scrapped. Which what they should do is make DUST/LEGION for PS4 and figure out the cross console/PC bs later. Just sayin
The main reason for this change would be that the console platform is holding dust back from having a real link to new eden and the EvE playerbase. their is no argument their, this game has failed to live up to what the trailer portrayed the game as. so it needs to move to PC, BUT ccp can't just up and leave the player base on console behind, and I agree with that too.
Legion hasn't been scrapped as far as I can see, CCP don't have a solution for this problem, PC or PS4, get the game features the game needs in or keep the console community happy. so their putting off the having to make that decision for the future. because there is no clear solution. I'm asking if linking the games IS that solution.

If Dust ever moves to a new platform, it will probably be an evolutionary step away from Dust. So based on it and it's mechanics, but with better graphics and hopefully more meaningful gamemodes.
If that means, that you have to make the step to the new platform at a certain point, then I'm fine with that. Though I must say, that I'm pretty biased towards which platform it will run on. PC is just not my cup of tea, though I would make the stretch for other games, Dust is a more casual game for me, and for that I much prefer the console (PS4) over a PC.
Having both games connected at that point (be it on PC or PS4, will probably take away quite a bit of resources, just to get things connected. This is not worth it, so I'd rather have them doing a cut at a certain point, leaving Dust on PS3 for as long as it's feasable (player count) and when most people have moved to the new platform, just shutting PS3 support down and focus on the new platform.
If legion was dead CCP would have announced it. The question here is how to keep the community happy when we reach the point where we have to pick between PC and PS4.
Theirs no resources needed, its just two different games reading the same database data. it would take less then a month to set it up. I see that it doesn't make a difference to you over where the platform moves (It doesn't effect me ether, i'd be happy to see it on PC) to but for 50% of the community it does. is this a solution to THAT problem

AI programmer, all graphics/level design people were moved to valkry, plus some regular coders. QA guy is only part time on dust CCP moves people from project to project all the time as part of standard operations. also the official word on legion is that there is nothing to report, wich suggests that there really is nothing at all to report becuase its on hold.
Your making an assumption, I'm going on the last statement issued by CCP

Because nothing changed, ie their still split between developing for legion and dust.

Not only is this a console game, if it gets ported to PC, they'll lose the console players that they already have. Gonna guess the EVE nerds aren't very good at FPS. If they were, they'd be playing FPS. I do kind of agree that, this being a free to play game, maybe not all the players will be able to just run out and get a PS4. However the PS3 only have two years max of life left. If this game is to survive a move to PS4 is inevatable and simply the best corse of action, for the game
Dude I completely get where your coming from and agree but this game is never going to have the features we all want if it stays stuck to console. another benefit of having a free to play FPS on PC means it is open up to millions of new players. the game would actually have a population. that aside I also see that leaving the console player base behind is also a bad call, The idea is the best of both worlds and keep everyone happy no?
