Strafing in general just needs to be toned down. Its not like where playing on PC here with the super precise input of a mouse.
Controllers are inherently imprecise, hence the need for aim assist (for most players at least).
The contradiction here is that we have a high HP shooter alongside the ability to strafe quickly yet dusts aiming mechanics and on the DS3 are clunky. The very fact that that aim assistance is required to help track fast moving/ strafing targets proves my point.
Hit detection issues just further compound the issue and what we get is the ridiculous one on one gunfights we've all seen where people are strafing around each other unloading whole magazines into thin air.
I'm sorry but the running around in the open knowing that you can just strafe your way out of trouble and the hilariously drawn out one on ones have to end.
Reducing strafe speeds will force people to use cover during gunfights and play with some sort of intelligence when moving from cover to cover. |

NO! you are wrong!. it needs inertia.
and hit detection needs to be fixed and overall gameplay mechanics need to be fixed to where they actually work.
reducing strafe speeds wouldnt really solve the issue.
if only we could pilot the mcc.
id end the matches real quick.

Which would inherently slow down both side to side and circle strafing. A combination of both a speed reduction and inertia should do the trick.
I'm not saying nerf strafing into the ground, but right now its too exploitable and allows players to get away with poor decision making in battles.

having only inertia should do the trick though. because they would be forced to slow to a stop when trying side to side or doing little circles.
its not even strafing its mechanic abuse.
strafing usually involves moving in only one direction whilst firing to try and get in to cover or something like that. thats just my take on it though.

Traditionally, yes, but Dust has had dance-strafing where mercs just wiggle about in whatever ridiculous manner best dodges bullets and often in a circle/figure of eight.
People walking sideways to reach cover while firing to try and keep heads down is reasonable: walking in high speed circles being hard to kill than when in cover is pretty dumb.
Still, I agree that inertia is the answer: let's you move one way to get to cover quickly but doesn't let you wiggle dance to victory.
Edit: I actually tested this kind of movement on Destiny, and the guy barely moves when trying to wiggle strafe - but can still move sideways fine. It ain't perfect, but Destiny does do quite a lot right.
