Posted an unexpectedly long piece about my first go on the new matchmaker as a relative useless blueberry here
Some interesting some not.... But the tl/dr is T\L DR When the teambuilder/matchmaker worked last nigh it was really good. There are still a few kinks to work out around team numbers and what happens when people leave during the battle. If someone ends up in the 'wrong' tier they are going to be able to absolutely clean house, witness Mr Prima Gallicus going 65/0 but I think/hope that things are on the right track. In the good matches things certainly didn't seem quite as daunting for the really new players as before, but still a considerable step up from the Academy. Everyone will have to hear from them to know for sure though. As a middle of the road casual I had a good competitive time.
What did I learn? There still needs to be a much better tutorial for new players around game modes, hacking objectives, uplinks, use of supply depots, weapons etc. Although all the frontline suits now have uplinks few people seemed to use/ be aware of them. Very few of the lower ranked players (myself included) seem to run in squads. There are actually quite a few new players still. The Militia Assault Scrambler Rifle wrecks. SP investment really does make a difference. A Proto suit without all proto modules and a proto weapon isn't nearly as scary as one with. If only one person in the match has skilled into and figured out how the mass driver works they can completely dominate the point on the train map. Without proto vets etc hanging over the battlefield more styles of gameplay seem to occur. There was more dropship transportation, tank support, snipe and counter snipe going on. Useful installations weren't insta killed at the start of matches and actually proved useful and dangerous for both teams. The slightly more balanced and generally higher TTK of everyone in the battle added to the fun.

just because people leave it dosent mean they dont want a fair fight. maybe youre talking for your self personally but i leave because i get a squad invite, or its a map i dont like (im getting tired of the train tunnel map any one else?) could be because one of my squad mates got skottied or the exciting internal error or game froze lag black screen circle of doom some one didnt deploy wanted to pick some one else up etc etc

Considering that there are an extremely humongous larger amounts of complaints of the issue of people leaving rather than squaddies getting kicked out and how nobody else I talk to that does normally squad is reporting this I am hard inclined to believe this.
Think we need to find out whether or not since the matchmaking addition, there has been an increase in the rate of which squads aren't fully deployed into matches. If this is NOT the case, that is, if we're seeing that squads aren't fully deploying with the same frequency as prior to the change, then we can deduce that people are a) using it as an excuse and b) there certainly should be a focus on people simply leaving over fixing the split-squad syndrome, because no-one has really complained about it before.
Basically, if for some reason implementation of matchmaking has directly increased the amount of squads being split, then perhaps there is an issue. IF matchmaking just made squad-splitting more obvious in our eyes since it has never really been an issue before, then the real issue is stopping people from leaving matches.

Well, I myself rarely get kicked out of a deploy, but that may have to do with my pretty stable line.
I have however had others getting not deployed within squads I was running in. And If you have important members dropping (squad lead...) you will probably leave to pick him up again. Also people unintentionally cancelling their deploy, should not be possible so easiely!
There will always people who leave because they don't want to loose a fight, (kdr whores) but those should be penalized for their behaviour, by getting bad rating in their contract violation ratio (new stat). + an Isk penalty.
