If you have to ask...
Get a DS4. The PS button doesn't work on the PS3, and you have to be diligent about charging it, but it's superior in every other way. |

When the left joy stick drifts constantly in a direction... Or the L3 button stops working... Or one of y our d-pad buttons go out. Or it stops taking a charge.
Generally when the back text/bar code is kinda faded off from wear and use.

As long as L1 R1 and both joysticks work you are good. Only scrubs throw cores anyways.

It's slightly larger and wider, it's made with thicker plastic but lighter, the triggers have smoother deeper action and are angled slightly differently, the joysticks are textured, concave, snap back tighter and just feel better altogether. Imo, it's a massive improvement over the DS3. |

When the device is getting to annoy you. When the thought of spending 30-50 dollars on a new device is more favorable than using the old one.
I don't understand this post. If you were asking "how can I fix mine" I think we could help but "when to replace" is entirely up to you. Some questions:
1. Do the analog sticks sometimes get stuck in a certain position? 2. Does the controller cause you to move even when in the neutral position? 3. Do some of the buttons no longer work? 4. Does it have a sharp edge that is digging into your hand? 5. Do the buttons get stuck sometimes? 6. Are the buttons hard to push down? 7. Is the controller having issues being picked up by the PS3.
If any of the above is true and you have fiddled with the controller, I would think the answer could very well be "maybe." Again, cost to benefit.
And now for some sadness:
Crimson Moon V wrote: A real man manhandles a DS3. I have no idea how people have controllers for years. I guess I am just a passionate gamer. Replace every instance of gamer with person/guy. Replace ever instance of controller/DS3 with woman/lady.

Turn off the LED light... Battery lasts so much longer.
Edit* The DS4 controller has no deadzones..
Basically when the joystick on the DS3 sits in the center rest position and you slightly move it around that rest position.. it has a deadzone where it doesn't pick up the movement. DS4 completely gets rid of this.. Allowing you to have more accurate toggle use of the joystick..
For players who really only use no joystick or full joystick.. This wouldn't make much of a difference.. But for players who use the joystick to its full use have a much greater ability to control inputs in a game.
The best controllers are easily Scuf controllers for gaming.. http://scufgaming.com/
Provides fully customizable buttons.. two buttons underneath the controller allowing you to use more buttons without changing your hand position.. Then tons of tweaks to improve the control and feel of the controller. |

How do you turn the light off on the DS4? Do you mean take the controller apart and physically disable them?

May as well since buying a new DS3 is near the cost of one. Don't even get me started on a used one, bad investment.

When you've completely destroyed the plastic frame, are missing buttons, the analogs don't go back to their original position, when they dangle, when it doesn't turn on anymore even though you're charging it, or when you're tired of the color and wish for a new one. These are a few of the reasons. |
