Got a message from my ISP saying, "you have used 500gb+ this month". They are gonna start charging me $10 for every 50gb I go over. My limit is 250gb/month. Anyone else getting similar messages? |

Comcast/AT&T will try to limit you unless you pay them $100+ every month for a higher limit and then its like $10 for every 50mb you go over

It's not unlimited if it's capped... That's just silly.
In the uk, we can get unlimited calls and internet for under -ú30 a month (about $44)
Definitely tell them you're switching providers! Companies are much less grumpy when they think they'll lose you |

Most cable providers have this now. If they are really going to charge you an extra $10 per 50gb you are better off upgrading to the next higher package as they generally include an increased limit as well.
Also this only seems to be an issue with people that do not have the full "bundle" with tv and phone as well. |

Wha... wha... whaat?! I don't think there have been any max limits here in Finland for over 10 years now... On any ISP.
And here I thought that Finland was living in a stone age compared to everyone else.

Unlimited limit here is so high that very few ever reach it. Maybe ktb would, with his constant gaming and video uploading, but my brother used to do that and he never hit a limit. |

Do you torrent a crapload of FLAC files or something else music related? That's an average of 695 mb an hour... or 11.6mb a minute, or a constant chatter of 193kb a second with absolutely no downtime.

I'm going to guess your service provider is Comcast?
We call it ComCaustic for a reason. Not to mention it's getting sued for it's X-Finity system, which is clogging up wifi across the nation...

That isn't at all what net neutrality means.
Net neutrality basically means that companies like Comcast or Time Warner can't throttle the internet connection of companies that don't pay them some more on the top.
Comcast/Time Warner: " If you don't pay us x dollars, we will slow down your internet speeds to your customers."
Time Warner used to do that to companies like Netflix and Hulu, because they are competition. They would manually slow the connection speed so that their services would take longer to load, and they would get less business.

No doubt these new fees are those companies trying to make up for any money they are no longer making from their bullshit.
What's ironic about this is that The Chairman of the FCC, Tom Wheeler, is a former telecommunications lobbyist for the companies like Comcast, AT&T, and Verizon. I bet the telecomm companies are regretting seeing this guy in charge of the FCC now. They must have first thought to themselves "Oh look, we got our own guys controlling the rules! Let's celebrate!" Fast forward to now... "WTH???!!!??!?!!!!!!!!!!!!"
