Hello all
this is something I have been thinking about for some and still ant see why this is other then some one thinks this is EvE. Why is it that you can fit weapons that are not of the same type as the slot.
I and others I have talked to think that only the type of weapons meant for that slot should fit. no more heavy walking around with light or scouts fitting 2 side arms so they can do a fast draw instead of having to reload or a bit slower weapon change.
CCP please lock the slots to only fit what is titled on the slot
thank you |

Light weapons on Sentinels are already discouraged due to a reduction in base resources and the Sentinel skill reducing the cost of heavy weapons, allows them to fit heavy weapons far easier than light weapons.
As for Commandos, they can't even fit Heavy weapons.
Also I don't think there is really much of a difference in weapon swap speed, but even if there was it is so marginal that the disadvantage of choosing a sidearm over a light weapon equivalent, is simply not worth it.

The game does not have to be exactly like EVE.
The many of the differences in gameplay would be so small from your suggested changes, that the changes you suggest are not worth the time.
The game was originally designed with the intent that light weapon slots and heavy weapon slots are meant to give versatility in weapon selection. I also don't like idea of pigon holing the heavy suits and other suits into specific engagement ranges on the battlefield, it makes the game less of a sandbox. |

Loreish answer: the weapon slots are designed with a MAXIMUM weapon class in mind (allowing for power/CPU distribution) but can fit lowers class weapons that require less intensive draws, the suits, being products intending to be sold to mercenaries would be idiots to leave in the limitation of downward slot mobility, thus making the suit less marketable than one designed to allow a merc to customize to taste.
So, do heavies running lights ruin the game? Or imbalance it in any way? Because I have never seen it as a problem, and never heard any complaints...so...if it ain't broke don't fix it? |

This is a holdover of the idea that a ranged heavy is somehow inherently unfair.
And it's dumb. A heavy rocking a light weapon is about equal to an assault.
Tested this. While entertaining, putting a rail rife, combat rifle or assault rifle on a sentinel was no more effective for my average kills per match than putting them on my assault suits. My average kills per match also didn't improve over using the heavy weapons.
All it does is extend your reach and lower your DPS. It also requires a complete fitting overhaul. Running a rifle on an amsent required all four lows stacked with armor repair modules to sustain any sort of sustained operation For longer than two engagements without dropping back for an extended period.
Light damage mods on a calsent, while entertaining, resulted in getting eradicated by anything that looked like a laser. Had to stack energizers to mitigate it's shallower HP pool with two extenders. The calsent is hands down better utilizing the AHMG in all situations.
Minsent was hilarious but as I'm fond of saying, it's the best assault suit in the game. Burst and assault HMGs did more overall in every single instance.
The galsent suffered from just not being good at rifles in any conceivable way. rather like the minmatar suit, it just performed better running a machinegun even with mods.
Overall the calsent and amsent did about as well as an assault with the caveat that it required a niche, all-into-regen fit taking advantage of the quad tank slots. they performed better than commandos because commandos fill a bizarre niche.
Commandos have all the weaknesses of the assault and sentinels with few of the strengths of either.
