FYI a trademark being dropped doesn't really mean anything. As i said in another thread, legion was the code name fo the 'New Eden FPS on PC game' this neither implies legion as a project is dead, nor does it imply its not.
And here is why:
in 2013 when CCP showed the world EVE-VR (working title for the simple project) The players at fan fest, and on the stream went completely ape **** for it. It was played to hell and back af FF13, and lots of talk form outside fan fest. So much so that CCP saw $$$ and quickly green lite it.
Fast farward to FF14, CCP has been hearing eve players and some dust bunnies talk about 'dust should of been on PC whaaa' CCP decided that, maybe lightning will strike twice. So they register the TM for Project legion, and make this whole presintaiton about it, again hoping for a second lightning strike. CCP then fucks it all up. If they had done it correctly, which would of been "hey guys here are a few things we are working on for dust... now lets show you the future..." Legion would prolly be green lite right now. But what ccp did was toss all the concole players nder the bus, and basicly shot themselve sin the knee caps with the rouge wedding.
If you watched the FF14 stream, the please ERUPTED when legion was announced on pc. the stream when crazy. Then ccp finished... and you had people being bewildered. So what should of been lightning striking twice, turne dinto a PR nightmare for ccp.
We currently do not know CCP's future vision. If new eden on pc is still in the works, if dust will get a port, or if dust will be milked till all the ps3's are dead and left to roit. Because of this, and the backlash from the Rouge Wedding. Its smarter to let the TM die, and change the name when its offical. Or, let the TM die, then let the project die.
However, from a business stand point, legion being dead is utterly insane. The PS3 is on the way out. It will eventually be unplayable (dust) So ccp will eithe rmake somehting new, or port to ps4, which is still making something new.
for all we know, legion is on simmer with a small crew working on it, and they made a deal with sony to keep the name Dust 514 and move it to pc. We just don't know.
but a dropped trademark, is not enough evidence to support the claim of legion being dead. sorry but its not. It adds fuel to both sides of the fire however, depending on which side you are on.
Remember, code names and working titles do not always become the true product name. I see the trademark by ccp as a precaution, just in case the rouge wedding went the OTHER way. but honestly, whoever set up that stupid FF14 presintation with no info for dust was an idiot. |
