I think I'll play the few Assassin's Creed games I didn't touch. Kind of sick of playing Dust so much. Usually, I love shooters, but dust is pretty stale. Only two game modes? C'mon. 3... and FW... And PC's... so 5, still not that much either way. FW and PC's still run under the basis of Dom/Skirmish/Ambush and even then with how the map layouts are, Dom and Skirmish don't have much to differentiate themselves.
There are so many differing elements that can make and improve Dust but with a year wasted on hotfixes and the past months just shifting away from a broken game to what we have now, Dust players are allowed to be "frustrated".
Likewise other shooers like Unchartered had 6 game modes for competitive play, MAG and Resistance 2 had 5. even if you account for how game modes could be nearly similar, you'd still have 5/4/4 respectively. I also think the Dust dev team did show quite a degree of ignorance and that's solely on them; a lot of other shooters were doing a lot of stuff but instead of using what other studios did and implement similarities that were favorite features of other games, they decided to implement the same match modes at it's core.
I would've loved to have seen 3 teams in a match vying for control, I wouldn't mind changing objectives during a match and I think Resistance 2's "capture the flag" was a great game mode forcing players to be strategic and support their teammates.
A major flaw of Dust is the lack of an objective: I've seen whole corps content to sit on the sidelines for the sake of kills and ensure a high KDR while doing their least to sacrifice their own goods and I've seen only a handful of matches, maybe 5 so far this month, where in pub matches everyone is throwing everything they have to win.
When it's the former it REALLY REALLY IS BORING. There is no incentive to play the match at that stage; with half of the team willingly ready to abandon you why should you face the half squad in front of you? IF KDR was abandoned and greater payouts, somewhere on the scale of 5-10 times, were made, I think players might be willing to say "f--k it I'm risking it all". That's really the big weakness of Dust; for some players it's doing the least for the most reward and it's a **** poor strategy to rely on.
Can Dust be fun? I'm pretty sure it can be fun and be made to be fun. But I think most of us already threw in that towel; we're like the middle-aged chic seeking a nice guy and not Brad Pitt For most of us, a functional game is a vast improvement to a year ago and that really speaks volumes as to how low our expectations for the game have fallen and how easily smitten we can be with CCP with any positive step forward. It's sad but true; this game can continually disappoint but as long as they release one good thing, albeit tiny stuff, we'll be happy.
I'll be the first to call it, if this were a relationship, it'd be like Al Bundy and Married with Children with everything sucking and only 1 good thing happening a week which is enough to not eff off our clones off from the world continually |
