Pick up the currently equipped weapon of somebody we've recently slain (not taking fitting costs into account for stuff like proto)? I think it could add a neat new dynamic to the game.

Scouts don't have a heavy weapon slot, and heavies have no reason to pick up knives?

@Dreis: Suppose this restriction was removed *only* during battles when you pick up someone's gear. As a thought experiment, how do you think combat would change? @Vitharr: I understand the lore-reason behind it, but same question to you. How do you think combat would change? (Also, where does salvage come from then?)

Because my forge gun obliterates every last particle. Nanites cannot put humpty dumpty back together again.

But only the weapon, and you'd still be (theoretically) squishy. But I'm just curious as to opinions at this point.

One might say... I'm very skilled... yet I'm his apprentice... So what does that say about my mentor?

I'm guessing the nanites are not able to destroy everything so there are bound to be leftovers.

Scouts with HMG's oh thats gonna be fun. I can allready imagine how thats gonna work:
-scout sneaks up on heavy and shotguns him and then trades his sidearm for the HMG.
I make the scrubs scream and the vets cry.

It's probably just too hard to implement. Would need to make sure you had the adequate skills and enough PG/CPU.

You know why?
War has changed. It's no longer about nations, ideologies or ethnicity. It's an endless series of proxy battles, fought by mercenaries and machines. War, and its consumption of life, has become a well-oiled machine. War has changed. ID tagged soldiers carry ID tagged weapons, use ID tagged gear. Nanomachines inside their bodies enhance and regulate their abilities. Genetic control. Information control. Emotion control. Battlefield control. Everything is monitored, and kept under control. War has changed. The age of deterrence has become the age of control. All in the name of averting catastrophe from weapons of mass destruction. And he who controls the battlefield, controls history. War has changed.

Funny. I was gonna reference how MGO's system of allowing you to pick up weapons off of K.O.'d enemies in comparison to a similar implementation in Dust. It worked in MGO because there was a much more "bland" collection of weapons and the game itself was very simple in mechanics. In Dust, it would break like ish. If somehow we were to implement it without breaking the game mechanics, we'd have to deal with a much more agile battlefield. Switching weapons on the fly and worrying about the enemy taking your weapon once your soul leaves it and how much that would affect the match.
