How much would you be willing to pay for an officer weapon / dropsuit? How much would you expect to receive for an officer weapon / dropsuit? It will depend on the weapon itself as some are less survivable than others. Supply and demand pricing would normally drive the price but with the setup that it seems we will be getting I feel we are going to see trade limited by a fear of scams. What this will ultimately end up meaning is people will be willing to pay the lowest price that a trusted source offers once friends' supply of the desired weapon has been depleted.
That is pretty much what's going to happen. Until an Eve-style trade market is established with buy/sell orders in bulks, the only way to buy and sell once simple trading is implemented is just send X and hope to receive Y.
As I have previously pointed out in one of of my lectures, trusted middle men (aka brokers) will be common in Dust when it happens. How they will operate is that a seller finds a buyer but the buyer sends ISK or other form of in-game payment to the broker first. If the seller sends the item to the buyer afterwards, the broker then transfers the payment to the seller. If the seller fails to meet his/her end of the bargain, the broker will then give the payment back to the buyer.
The broker profits by taking a percentage of the sale if the item sells. Some brokers might ask for an upfront fee as a way of ensuring some revenue in case a transaction doesn't work out later on.
Of course, there may occasionally be a broker and a seller who are either in on a scam or are practically the same person masquerading as both with different accounts. This is where trust becomes important. Trust is the number one commodity in any market that's worth more than all of King Midas' silver. Once you earned it you have to protect it. Once you lose it, you're done and it will be a mission to build up that trust again. This is why some of the best scams in Eve Online take months, if not years, to be completed.
