both a friend and I have never been able to reload our main tank cannon and I have tracked the problem down to the control setups.
If a player has their infantry controls set to duty calls this changes their reload button to also interact and turret reload HOWEVER this also removes the reload command on square from the tracked vehicles controls.
This means that a player using duty calls for infantry CAN reload a side turret of a vehicle BUT
It also means the same player has no way of reloading the main weapon on a tank they are driving
Please ether fix this in the next patch or assign the circle button to reload the main cannon as it is unused in tracked vehicles if duty calls is assigned to infantry controls.
I have been living with this bug for over a year and literally thought every player couldn't reload their main tank gun. I'm surprised it hasn't been reported sooner.

I know right? Its been in the game for the past year and noone has caught it. And its the type of bug you definitely catch and fix on the first patch of a game release.

Good job on hunting the cause down!
I went to the extreme of re-installing the game just to see if it was a mistake from an old patch. no luck in fixing it
a friend who mains tanks is also affected by it. I think it went unnoticed due to most players using the default control scheme.

I haven't seen it on the forums before, most of the playerbase from what I've seen use the default controls and it only affects reloading on the main gun of a tank.
small percentage of players fall into both categories, I can imagine this falling threw testing and then players not noticing or shrugging it off. I thought it was part of the design of the rail cannons till I tried it a blaster myself.

If this does not get fixed soon after the information you have provided here CCP is going to look pretty bad.
Who am I kidding, we have seen bugs like this survive so long after players narrowed them down to the exact issue many times before. Keep posting OP maybe they will get tired of people frowning at why this has not been fixed.
Its input controls for unreal engine 3, they don't even need to write code, they can input the controls using unreals UI in the engine, this gets converted to code for them. hell if i looked it up and had an hour I could write the code for them too
I've also submitted a ticket. I've done all I can as a caring part of the community at my end, as a developer I know this takes very little effort to fix, and as a student of games design I know feedback like this is invaluable.
Pretty sure they wont fix it. they are a bad development team and a mess when it comes to managing their games and their communitys

Just got a replay to the ticket submitted for this bug, the dev's definitely know about it now so just have to wait and see what happens in the next patch or two. hoping to see this fix as soon as it can be but theirs other larger bugs needing attention first.

Its in the bugs section, its ticketed. and the ccp representitive who replyed to the ticket informed me they know about it. they've known about it for months. its just way down on the bottom of the list and they dont have anyone who can take the 2 seconds to edit the control setup in UDK.
I can literally do the same change in my own UDK. wait here a sec
There... done... I just edited a control scheme in a test demo i've been working on. they need to have someone do a sweep for all these minor bougs or issues and then just fix them in an afternnoon

Im gonna stick to two sentence paragraphs because there are a few people who can't handle more than that.
They shouldn't have added ammo to tanks and vehicles because the cooldown is bad enough, add that to the horrible hit detection, non existent splash damage, and having to reload. You could place a technical with a 50 cal at the end of an iraqi block and it will keep enemies in cover. The fact that tank drivers fear one guy with a normal STD anti-tank weapon standing out in the open is ridiculous.
For now they should remove turret ammo, currently its pointless.
With respect this has been in the game since beta, they know about it, its on a todo list and as unreal engine developer i know that this takes less then 3 minutes to fix.
so any excuse, no matter how reasonable is going to sound completely ridiculous given the circumstances.
I just want to be able to reload my tank gun.
