A game is naturally going to have players that leave or at least play less. We have a problem with player retention on both the new player and the veteran front.
We have a couple of fundamental problems that are going to lead to constant erosion of the player base until they are fixed.
Veteran retention:
For vets and mid level players end game content is non existent. PC is somewhat of a joke and does not stand to ever improve for the simple fact that 1 - 2 games a day at a scheduled time is not end game content. Raiding parties will improve this some but it is not a fix for a broken concept. FW should have been improved first to give day to day entertainment for all novice / veteran players not just the ones who want to fall in line with a corporation.
New Player Retention:
New players are stomped into the ground soon after leaving the academy. People blame this on matchmaking but the real issue is that the academy is nothing more than a ceiling that once hit you are screwed. The academy should be based on merit so that players can move into the regular population at their own pace.

I would not agree with map rotation. Many of the Battlefield servers I used to play on would play the same map over and over...like Camp Gibraltar 24/7 no downtime. In Dust 514 I would pick the smallest available Ambush map and play it over and over. A 500 or 1000 clone Ambush would be nice.

You should proly grab a Snickers bar. 1) the new players having to fight vets (too big of a gap in SP and exp), 2) If new players don't really have very much SP, there's nothing to protect), after all what would you work harder for? protecting the $100,000 you have? or going to earn another $100,000? Most people would do more to protect what they have. If newbs have no sizeable SP saved, why try to hard? 3) nothing new to do in game really, combined with the same maps over and over. 4) lag 5) ps3is dying and ps4 is out 6) No real word on Legion or if our gear and SP will be going anywhere. These are just some of my thoughts and apologies gentlemen i'm typing on my phone atm.

Some vets get tired of being the stomper, others tired of being the stomped, or some combination of the two.
Plus, the state of PC does not support any significant benefits to promote people to really care about it. And if they do, from what I understand, the mechanics are prevent any flexibility to attacks etc.
And then there is FW, which has some problems too.
I think the answer lies in some combination of the above circumstances.

Right now there are just better games to play warframe, blood born, dust is a cool game but its stale. I see the same people all the time and the game really hasn't changed. I've squeezed all the fun out of dust that I can for now and for the forseable future I don't plan on coming back either..... And I was one of the ones who dropped money on this game. It will still be there when and if I decide to come back. For now, farewell

My strikethrough and bolding.
I would also add zero investment in NPE. We've heard from multiple devs that 'We don't need to teach players how to shoot a gun'. Such a statement if flat out disingenuous when those same devs are getting feedback from new players that they have absolutely no idea what is going on. I will wager ISK to donuts that a measurable percentage of players quit the game without ever training a skill or changing a dropsuit fitting.
There's a helluvalot more going on in the Dust battlespace than 'shooting' a gun. For 80% of my kills the shooting part is incidental, everything else is knowledge of game systems/maps. Conversely, many of my deaths come when i'm going against my knowledge of the game systems and trying to push my luck or picking a fight above my skill level.

Vrain, are you and I talking about the same thing when I say "tiericide"? I get the feeling that you might think I mean something akin to metalevel lockout. That's not it at all.
Tiericide refers to a process where the "tiers" of dropsuit are modified. In my own imaging of tiericide all dropsuits have the prototype module slots, but CPU/PG increases as you move from std > adv > proto dropsuit. Make sense?

Dream on buddy, the only thing that will keep the new players, is seperation of the vets from the freshlings... They need a seperate gamemode, where they advance in level and always get put in battles with similar lifetime SP Players.
If they want to duke it out with the lolvets, they can go pub match, but otherwise, they should have a fallback gamemode for themselves.

In my own imaging of tiericide all dropsuits have the prototype module slots, but CPU/PG increases as you move from std > adv > proto dropsuit. Make sense? We are talking about the same thing, but i'm definitely in to minority, most peeps agree with you.
I'm of the opinion that CCP managed a reasonable balance in the power of the tires + passive bonuses. Dust should be 'unfair' - it's definitely not the expectation in other shooters but it's probably not a deal breaker for new players, so long as we get everything else right: matchmaking, accounting for squad power, reliable mechanics, NPE, wp reward structure.
If peeps were enjoying the game and the game supported new players the noobs could close the power gap reasonable fast, especially if we bonused their WP against high mu players.
As an example, shared squad scans are prolly a bigger power multiplier for vet Protosquads than the gear is, if we nerfed shared scan in pubs the net benefactor would be the new players. It's just an example, but the forum population has been too quick to pull the trigger on tiericide and breaking up pubs into brackets. We have a reasonably long list of things that need to be fixed before we give up two of the things that make Dust unique and give it some of the feel of New Eden. It's hard because lobby shooter, but is it impossible?
Anyway, just an opinion, the tiericide model the community has arrived at is a good model, but it feels like Dust is engaging in a failing defilade retreat against the forces of conformity, as if we're ashamed of what New Eden is and believe that new peeps just can't handle it, even though we can.

The other problem is that a lot of the vets refuse to spend time building up the new blue berries. There needs to be incentive and reward for the 3 mil lifetime clone killing the 25 mil lifetime clone. Kind of a, in your face proto stomper. Call it reversal and provide some decent SP for it. Make advantages for running with a squad of under trained clones. Award some kind of training bonus. The only thing that can save Dust is a strong player base. On PS3 the game will never be able to perform in the next year.
Now to start shotgunning and REing again, everyone will love this play style. Face Palm!
