I found a weapon which has relatively the same range as the newly nerfed HMG, has more accuracy and you can use two of them! They hold more damage, slightly less rate of fire!
What is this new devilry you speak? I'm talking the prototype sub-machine gun!
Using less CPU/PWG than it's Heavy Counter part, the SMG allows you to reload faster, carry almost as much ammo, and has a tighter hip fire spread with laser aim down sight accuracy! Now you can be part of the hip fire war with the scouts! The damage modifiers have higher values! Come try the Prototype SMG today and drop your Boundless Heavy Machine Gun for something far more versatile!
Did I mention it doesn't over heat?

Just a friendly PSA for our ridiculed brethren of the Heavies showing that an SMG is a much more efficient way to handle your gun game in light of the new Nerf to HMGs

is the range not the same? If not, only 10 meters of a distance? Which, in combat, isn't much in CQC. From what I'm seeing, it's more viable to use the SMG

A) maximum DPS of a Six Kin with 4 proto damage mods against armor with proficiency 5 is 628.9 DPS. A Basic HMG does 640 DPS before applying any skills or weapon profiles. So the best possible Proto SMG with max skills does less damage against armor (the tank its good against) than the basic HMG does on its own before applying any sort of modifier.
Where did you get the idea it was better from? Range, dispersion, both slots gain benefit of each dmg mod, fitting, sight. He pretty much gave you his answer before you asked your question. DPS is only a factor of a weapons usefulness. A lesson more of new eden could learn. Pretty much says it all. You don't have to worry about heat build up, and you can spend both mags before having to reload, which is quick anyway, and your damage mods (as he said) benefit both weapon slots.

EDITx2: Also, your math assuming ALL of the HMG bullets hit, which they rarely ever do in strafe fights, whereas with the SMG it's much easier. Being outranged by the average sidearm just feels lame. at the very least, managing to kill someone with the supposedly useless hmg fills me with more pride since I still perform quite well while using a weapon that is a shell of its former self More power to ya brother :) I admire a guy that sticks to his guns.... No pun intended. I'm more concerned that the nerf to the HMG was a bit much being that the SMG can compete with it.
Honestly? I think instead of nerfing the HMG, they should change up the Sentinel Class.
Make the Sentinel class a class which specializes in HMG operation (damage, range, rof or something to that effect making it a more lethal killing machine) and make it squishier than the sentinel is now, kill its grenade count or remove the sidearm.. And then, create a point defense suit which specializes in tanking. Call it the Juggernaut. Give it efficacy bonuses to armor/shields. That way, the roles of the Heavy are more defined.

<- Career Heavy since Jan '13. I was displeased with the Serious HMG buff as well as everyone started going Heavy. But, now, we're back to where they were when their range was laughable along with hit detection.
