Okay then lets say it would help.
Would you be happy to have a little less lag with 12 v 12 or would you be mad at the fact that we went backwards a little bit? |

Hard lag has a way of throwin my game off, unlike anything else. I would be willing to try 12 vs 12 if it meant no lag.

I believe it will only partly solve the problem considering that the likely cause of so much lag is that the server is having to account for so many variables. How much DPS/Alpha your weapon is suppose to make for a given skill level you have, the speed, stamina amount and recovery of your suit, the amount of resistance your suit or vehicle has to a given damage type, the location and effectiveness of every equipment deployed in the match, processing every module being turned on in each vehicle like hardeners and armor repairers, and the scan precision/profile of your suit along with range of the scan plus active scanners.
MAG didn't have much of a problem in the PS3 because I heard a lot of the players had the same stats so the servers didn't have to struggle much. Dust, however, has a ton of stats that fluctuate every time a player respawns in a difference suit. It's like a fleet of 1,000 Drakes in Eve firing their missiles all at once at each other with all sorts of different fitting arrangements. It's going to cause some strain either on the server or client or maybe both.
The best way to go about this at this point is to port Dust over to either the PS4 or the PC. Either way is good enough since both platforms have nearly identical architecture to each other and are more capable of handling the stress of processing so many variables.

Good to know that we can not talk about any possible fixes to the game with out people yelling "port". Its not going to happen anytime soon so how about we stop acting like a bit of whining on the forums is going to affect a major business decision and instead we talk about the things that are possible in the next few months to make this a better place to game.

If you want to play a game with small maps and low player count, why not play virtually ANY other FPS that handles their graphics and mechanics significantly better than DUST?
It's bad enough the dev team wants to make our maps even smaller, now we have people calling to cull our tiny player count in matches too?
Have at it.

I'm not whining. That much is certain. What I'm pointing out here is that reducing the player counter per match can only help much before the real issue becomes apparent. Also, it should not surprise you that people are talking about porting now more than ever before considering that the PS3 is slated to stop production later this year (though Sony will continue supporting it for longer than that). Thankfully, I can see the PS3 lasting another few years due to so many PS3s currently available in the market in stock. I even see PS3 still being sold in bulk at a local Gamestop or Best Buy.
But we have to face the reality that the PS3 is coming to a close. If you think about it, the PS3 is already about to be 9 years old later this year. It came out in 2006. To give you an idea of how long ago that is, George W. Bush was still president of the United States, the great economic recession was only a year away, Eve Online was only 3 years old at the time, EA's Earth & Beyond closed down only 2 years earlier, and PlayStation Home wasn't due to be released for another 2 years (it's now shutting down at the end of this month).
That's a long time for a console. And now with over 20 million copies of the PS4 being sold worldwide, it's only inevitable that we talk about this now.
And reducing the player count per match will only be a short-term measure that will not completely address the underlying problem of the PS3 not being able to handle so many variables at once.

Nowhere have they announced stopping production or stopping support of the PS3. This rumor someone has decided to spread to keep everyone talking about a port is nothing more than that.
The only support going away for PS3 is the flow of triple A games which CCP will probably see as an advantage.
While most of the rage over Legion was well warranted the continuing flux of support for staying on PS3 seems to have been well received and I do not see us leaving PS3 for at least a couple of years.

Todays games are just too high powered and complex to really be able to care much for dated tech.

@LOOKMOM
Perhaps you are correct that Sony might not cancel production anytime soon.
But I'm not sure about your comment on people wanting to stay on the PS3. The PS3 is already old as hell. Many of us, including me, are already prepared and willing to purchase a PS4 as soon as news comes out that CCP will move it over to next-gen... assuming they even choose the PS4. They might choose to go the PC route instead which doesn't really affect me since I already have a PC for Eve Online.

Im not saying that Dust players want to stay on PS3, I am referring to what everyone was saying for a while after the Legion announcement.
As far as being stuck on PS3 the facts are simple.
CCP formerly planned to stay on the PS3 past the PS4 release, this was stated many times in the OLD road map which is gone but I say this to point out their thought process previously.
CCP has now bragged about profitability on the PS3. Why would they spend 10s - 100s of thousands of dollars scaling the team back up and working on a port to PS4 only to enter a high competition market versus the PS3 which will now be very low competition where they already have a stable player base.
CCP has also made reference to the "thousands of users" joining the game every day. Again, why would they throw this away?
All signs indicate that the triple A games will be coming to a stop very soon on PS3. I am not CCP but I can definitely see how they would consider this an advantage for them.
Im sorry to say it but in my mind the pretty blatant rejection of Legion doomed us to PS3 for quite some time. |

Personally I would rather not downgrade the player count. Maps are too big and poorly designed with our current player count. That said, I'd kill to have a stable framerate and less lag. It's something I would at least consider. Would it? I'm not able to tell unless there's a dead body in the room.

And I'm sorry to say it but I believe your argument is flawed. I will not argue about what CCP said during the Legion announcement and it seems plans have changed drastically ever since CCP Rattati took over. But from what I gathered, the profitability of Dust 514 on the PS3 might actually encourage CCP to invest in preparing Dust for a possible port. CEO Hilmar himself even pointed out through his own admission that the game will likely last only a few more years. After that point, Dust will not be able to continue being profitable especially after Sony cuts off support eventually. If CCP wants Dust to continue making money, they'll eventually have to spend a little more to have the game moved to a better platform.
In reference to the claim of competition being less on the PS3, Dust 514 was already facing intense competition from the likes of Battlefield, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, and Destiny and is still facing competition today due to the immense volume of games available on the PS3 at this stage. The PS4 is still relatively young. Tell me, how many good FPS games can you point out to me on the PS4 besides Battlefield, Planetside, Destiny, Call of Duty, Loadout, and Killzone that are out now on the console and never were on the PS3? Perhaps in 2-3 years we'll start seeing a lot more, but so far that's the only competition Dust has to deal with and I have seen a lot of people get tired of the same CoD, the same BF, the same KZ, and are already complaining about Destiny. The only real competition Dust has to deal with is Star Citizen when that comes out but that's only on the PC.
As for CEO Hilmar's comment on getting thousands of new players everyday, I don't think he was referring to Dust in particular. I think he was referring to the PS3 itself. Even if he was referring to Dust, one would question how many of those thousands of players stick around playing the game.
http://dustboard.com/global
Looking at the Dust Board which pulls the information on new characters being made every day via the API system, it doesn't look like we're getting thousands of new players everyday for Dust in particular. More like mere hundreds. And even then, how many of those hundreds are just recycled alts from old players? This leads me to believe that he's referring to the PS3 in general which would be a more believable scenario.
As for your final statement about triple A games being less common now on the PS3, I can see what you mean by that. It does seem advantageous for CCP at this point, but it's only a matter of time before CCP starts changing its mind. And it's not like CCP hasn't changed its mind before.
