Sony plans to stop the ps3 production this year if im right. What will happen to this game from that point on? I.mean i have a ps3 and ps4, only using my pa3 system for dust and netflix.
Problem is when all those systems die, the playerbase will die of to.
Why no ps4 version? Even with these graphics i think dust beats almost any fps on the ps4 right now. I play planerside 2 beta , thats the only concurrent factor i guess.
But as they do nothing, it will be to late. |

I do not think that Sony plans to stop supporting the PS3 at any set time. Even when they stop production the secondary market will only grow for some time after that keeping the PS3 cycling to new people and feeding Sony revenue.
http://www.gamespot.com/articles/sony-not-abandoning-ps3-anytime-soon/1100-6420777/
With that being said I do think something needs to be said about the plans for the next 2-3 years in a hurry. This guessing game is getting pretty old and the longer it goes on the less stable the current player base is going to become. We are all sitting around playing guessing games and eventually those guesses are going to start to get negative to the point that we see an accelerated erosion of the current player base. |

once they stop making PS3s people wont be able to replace theirs (or less willing to) when dust enevitably causes it to explode... dwindling the playerbase down to nothing over time.
dust cant survive on the ps3 for longer than 2 more years, its simply not possable due to inevitable hardware malfunction.

Yeah thats my point,
Im not talking about ps3 support, im talking about ps3's not been sold anymore.
Why should i buy a secondhand ps3 on ebay or marketplace? Just for dust? While all other new games made u switch to ps4 for free, for examples i.bought destiny on ps3 and for free took it over to my ps4.
So its not about supporting ps3, its about when.ur ps3 dies, arw u willing to buy another ps3 just for dust?
They must switch fast or this game dies, planetside 2 is coming also, it plays great even in thia early beta phase on ps4.
Hoping ccp can use their brains and start.the transfer to ps4, |

Nothing is being said, because CCP is milking the people silly enough to believe that they are 'investing' worthwhile effort (and money) in their characters. CCP will remain silent, as this happens.
This is not to belittle the efforts of Rattati and his colleagues. But let's be honest with our intuition, they care about making the game fun, but their primary objective is to keep it profitable.

There are 1000's of (PS2) systems for sale online....... You will NEVER have to worry about a shortage of ps3 game systems. Once Sony stops updating the ps3 that's when it will die! For online game play anyway. |

Console companies after they cease production usually sell the right to produce their systems to 3rd parties to produce. Sony might stop making PS3s, but it doesn't mean licensed clones will stop any time soon.
As for sony support, PS2 support lasted far into the PS3 life cycle if I remember correctly.

Even when they stop production, there's still massive numbers in people's homes, massive numbers in stores worldwide, and massive numbers in Sony's stockpile.

And for that highlighted reason alone CCP will likely see it as being in their best interest to port it over to either the PC or the PS4 as soon as possible while it's still making them money. There are already people here in the forums ready to purchase the PS4 if CCP moves it to the next-gen console. Others are still waiting on a PC port since those are likely Eve Online players.
Also, anyone buying the PS4 will also likely invest in an Oculus Rift if Eve: Valkyrie proves to be worth it which seems possible considering how much enjoyment everyone got from it during Fanfest 2015 just yesterday and now that we know that CCP has opened up sign ups for Pre-Alpha testing.
https://www.evevalkyrie.com/prealpha
It just doesn't make sense for any business to let a money-making game die off in a last-gen platform when they have an opportunity now to take advantage of the next-gen for the same game. If anything, porting it over to the next-gen would be a good thing for Dust anyways since this means more devs working on the game to make it more stable and have more content. This is also good for CCP as it will mean having a more secure revenue source for another 5-10 years.
One thing I want to point out is that I have spoken with players recently who know about PlayStation Plus and how the PS4 requires players to have that subscription for online multiplaying. It turns out that you don't have to pay for the subscription for online multiplaying if the game happens to be Free-to-Play like Dust. This was announced by Sony back during E3 a couple of years ago as a way of drawing players away from the Xbox One.

Just like how there is still a massive stockpile of Game Cube controllers for those who enjoy playing Super Smash Bros.

CCP will release a DEV version of DUST and lock it so that we cannot effect EVE Online and we can poop around with bots and have 9999999999 everything
I really want this, so I know what it is like to be skilled into everything I want and run proto 24/7

It isn't likely to happen sometime soon.
But the larger question of "when, not if", I assume that DUST will die if it stays on the PS3. There will be no people to play it as the playerbase gets smaller and smaller as PS3's become unavailable. If that doesn't happen, it will die when Sony officially stops supporting the PS3. Sometime before that point, if CCP wants DUST to continue, they will have to look into porting the game. Or, perhaps, they will just say "DUST is done" and create a different game thereby ignoring that sticky situation of vets with 200 million SP.
It happens to all games that have a server and not just console games. There will come a time when World of Warcraft is turned off, when EVE is turned off. They will be games that were just a memory with no capability of busting out the old CD or console to play. Sure, there might be some private servers but an MMO's without MM it is just not going to work.
In the long run, we are all dead. As it is also is for games.

Remember we still have Legion, maybe thats what CCP had in mind when they announced Legion, one of the devs said that all player data including assets and currency would be transferred to it, this is what I think, CCP knew that the ps3 would soon"die", knowing this they created Legion, the next phase in the development of this game, but they decided to continue the development of Dust 514 until the ps3 is officially "dead", then continue the development on the PC and transfer all data to this new but still the same game that has survived many fights (destiny, QQ, huge unbalance issues, and fights between CCP employees according to a few articles and interviews with former employees and staff members).

If dust wont die because u can buy 2nd hand consoles or whatever, It still needs playstation network to keep the game running,
Im not sure when they stop making ps3 systems that they wont pull out the switch for ps3 network. No ps3 network means no dust servers means a dead game.
Maybe the next update will be with bots... then u can keep playing forever |

There is a huge number of ps3s out there already, this game's problem isnt availability of hardware to play on, its problems (in terms of growing player base) is lack of appeal and a punishing new player experience. |

The availability has nothing to do with it. As soon sony stops with producing ps3, not much later they stop with ps3 network.
