So, we know that there is currently the "passive spotting system" which some people like, some people don't.
I like passive spotting, we're wearing advanced suits with built-in HUDs so if an enemy registers on one, your squaddies should know about it without needing to explicitly tell you.
We know that there will probably be cloaks and deployable and suit-based sensor modules that allow you to detect nearby players, etc...
What I haven't heard discussed is the possibility (we do have a helmet slot afterall) of having "occular filters" or upgrades that help one see. I'm talking infrared, ultraviolet, night vision, em-vision, etc.
I know that I for one sometimes get blinded by all the dust and smoke billowing through the air, my super-advanced suit should be able to switch into a different "viewing mode" to let me see through that dust and continue blasting my enemies.
Things like flash-bangs and the like would of course impact your eye-sight in general so it wouldn't necessarily be a counter to "stunning" hits, simply something that would allow you to see the world in a different scale when the need arises.
I know that the planets in EVE and that will eventually be the basis for the planets in DUST are varied, rotate (so one side is pointing towards the sun at a certain point, i.e. day/night cycles), and have weather patterns.
I would like to see fights happening in hurricane/gail conditions, snow, sandstorms, at varied times of day (dawn, morning, noon, evening/dusk, night) and perhaps even with the specular lighting of the map being affected by the color/intensity of the star system that the planet happens to be orbitting in.
Any of these varied conditions could make it hard to see the enemy through simply a standard "visible light spectrum" field of view. Of course, for each "view mode" we would need to test it and make sure it wasn't just an "easy-win" view mode where nothing could affect you and it invalidated the rest of them.
Also, scouts should have something like a "spotting scope" that is not actually attached to a gun but gives them "long-field" vision to help them pinpoint enemy locations while they are creeping around in the hills so that the fire team has some idea of what they're getting into and where they should attack/avoid.
Just some further thoughts, more to come I'm sure. |

We'll need to have stuff like nighttime maps first.
But yeah, once the environment isn't daylight 24/7 (or is it only daylight on weekends?) we will really need different vision types.
Just a thought. Maybe a suit that looks like the alien from Predator and a neat shoulder laser with 3 guide lasers. :) Nah... |

i was think that the thermal filiter could have limited detection though walls like the ones in a build or skyscrapper, could you imagine havingva guy in your squad outfitted with one of this, and just look though the walls, if theres guys in there the squad could flashbang, breach and tear them up.
now of course there needs to be limitation like the heat signitures get more dispered and harded to see/noticed has they get father away or more stuff between them so you wont be able to tell how many people in a room you would just now the room is warm, and a grenade or engine compent could create this heat as well.
theres all kinds of thing that could be done with this. |
