The complete lack of a balanced matchmaking and not have a tier system at this game's beginning is very arguably the number one reason this game never rose past a cult playerbase that hovers in the low 1000s.
What would be the point of trying to introduce this system now? And given the track record of CCP's and Rat's attempts at making some form of matchmaking system, why would we be lead to believe that it will work?
There has been 100s of requests and suggestions and ideas on these forums about a matchmaking system since the beginning of the game. Why would it be implemented in the future, long after the game has been given an expiration date?
Pubs are those pesky things that we need to get our SP.

Here is where this 'teirside' idea goes haywire;
noobs dislike proto gear, go to lowest tier battle. vets like proto gear, join highest tier battle. other vets just want to stomp, join lowest tier battle due to the noobs all joining that battle
So, in reality the games will be the same, just if vets want to stomp they join the lower tier servers and stomp in STD gear which is easy. Adding a tier system is a bad idea, low playerbase and it completely renders the 'special feeling' pulling out PRO gear in pubs gives you

You're right, but for the wrong reasons.
The reason tier cide works is because the difference between a new player and an old player is what mods are used and that's it. In this scenario, there is no "proto suit" it's just a suit with the user skilled to 5 getting the most out of the dropsuit. There's literally no reason to not like high meta level gear, the problem lies with the impoverished plebian pubbies who don't know how to save their isk properly.
Plus, contrary to popular belief, high level players don't actively decide and try to "protostomp" they're just that good. You could fit a pro in advanced gear and a lesser opponent in officer gear and the pro would win almost every time. It's a result of factors you can't change with numbers such as map and weapon knowledge and proficiency, and confidence and talent in their skills and how their dropsuits handle.
TL; DR time is Overpowered, and OP is a carebear.
