This idea addresses three issues at once.
A) It adds more to the lore of the Eve connection and helps establish that we are, in fact, in New Eden. B) It addresses the aching issue of ISK payouts from Public Matches being completely finicky and un-measurable. C) It adds content to the otherwise unused 'Other Contracts' section of the Battle Finder.
This idea is considered to be an addition, not an overhaul or revamp of an existing feature.
Three contracts are displayed at any given time are are available until they are completed. These a lucrative opportunities with an ISK payout guarantee available for the opportunistic players who are willing to eagle-eye the contracts window rather than simply press square and be thrown into a random match.
It bridges a way into the Eve Lore in the same way that Eve does their Mission stories: Adding context to the battle in an un-canon way (Eve missions are largely considered to be un-canon, hence why they are able to be repeated). It gives the player(s) a sense of understanding as to -WHY- those corporations are attacking one another.
It also adds value that Public Battles do not: You are guaranteed an ISK payout that you know you will get and those payouts can be adjusted on a case-by-case basis for game mode, map type, and other variables. They can (and should) be different to encourage different levels of play.
A rudimentary example of the UI and a "moderate pay" mission: http://i.imgur.com/xaQzZv7.png
In this example, Serpentis Corporation is attacking the Republic Security Services who are defending a Vaccine research lab (Gallente Research Lab socket) and if they win, they're going to use the materials to mass produce boosters. The payouts are moderate with 150,000 ISK for a win and 50,000 ISK for a loss. Players can choose to fight for either side (the payouts are the same) for whatever reason.
On the other hand, if there was a different battle with different circumstances, the stakes might be higher and the payout would be higher as well. Say, 300,000 ISK for a win and 100,000 for a loss. This would encourage the use of better gear and a stronger drive to secure a victory much in the same way that Faction Warfare battles do.
Nothing would be different about the battle itself. It's still the same Skirmish/Dom/Ambush gameplay. But players would have some idea of why they're fighting, what they're fighting for, and it address several concerns in what is largely a UI change.

I like the idea, even if it is a lore-only connection to EVE. It does not appear to be too complicated, and is kind of more in line with what I think of when I think "Mercenary".

It would make more sense then it does now. All we are doing now is getting paid to kill and be killed... For... Some reason?

Right right.
Leither brought up an interesting concern about chaining (group of players running them immediately after one another to increase cash flow) but I honestly don't think it's that big of a deal.
Let's say three-to-five of these things are running at any given time and are clearly visible in the 'Other Contracts'. If one of them fills up with players, it disappears from the list and a new one is generated (same as public contracts). I seriously doubt that it'd be possible for 160 players to constantly chain these things at random especially because of the way they work (some have lower payouts than others). If they chain them, they're missing out on potential earnings because of their impatience, whereas someone who patiently waited for the good opportunities would get more overall for the amount of effort they put in.
That being said, the next issue is popularity: If these things are so popular as to be preferred over normal public contracts, I'd say we've done a damn good job and should just use them as a replacement for public contracts x3

It would be nice to have something story driven in this game done by mercs. The one cool idea is that you would sign up with a certain faction like the Gs. and just get a special bonus at the end of the week, month, so on. But yours I enjoy much more.

It's a good idea and you could take it ever so slightly further and tie some salvage into the victory payout too. For instance in the example that was posted the victory payout could be the 150,000 ISK if SPC win everyone on the team gets a one day booster and if RSS win everyone on the team gets x number of nanite injectors.
(admittedly in that case the rewards are a bit lopsided but the idea possibly still stands)
Another example could be a contract around attacking/defending a shipment of Allotek weapons with a guaranteed payout at the end of e.g 20 Allotek Plasma Canons as well as the payment.
Might over complicate the idea a bit though. |

Reminds me a lot of the way Warframe does their invasions.
One side offers raw ISK, the other side offers gear.
Would work really well with stuff like Warbarge components. Do you want 200,000 ISK or do you want 5,000 Warbarge Components?
