Re: throwing investment money into short R&D end-of-year development Typical stuff really, whether it's up front investment or contract work. If you have surplus funds by year's end you generally report that depending on contract terms. If client/investors see that you could do X labor with only Y - surplus funding, then why would you need Y funding for the next contract term? So, dump that into R&D to justify the additional expense over what you actually used. 1) it's reinvestment into education, technology, and efficiencies even if development doesn't pan out; and 2) on the odd chance you happen upon discovery or innovation, then bonus. New venture(s) discovered, and options for development or exploitation are opened.
Re: spending money on a game that the company bla bla stuff... Semantics. Spend money for immediate entertainment. Resupply your AUR gear, boost for the edge, respec, etc. You buy a ticket for a 2-hour movie, not as an investment stakeholder to support a potential sequel with return-on-investment expectations beyond entertainment. Otherwise, you would actually own stock in the production studio that I'm pretty certain would cost more than $20 a show.
You're trading currency for entertainment, nothing more. We are gamers, not stock-holders or private investors. No amount of anything beyond entertainment value is owed to you, or you, or any one of us. If you confuse the idea of paying for immediate entertainment value with speculation of what might one day be, then PM me as I have a few wonderful concepts that I would like to pitch. If you believe you now own shared rights with Warner Brothers, Peter Jackson, and/or the Tolkien Estate simply because you bought the Lord of the Rings super-special Bluray 3d + DVD + Digital HD with UltraViolet Technology! edition, enclosed in premium faux leather-bound holographic binding and an array of supplemental discs complete with director's cut versions 1, 2, and 3, screening cut (without backing soundtrack), Gollum commentary on working conditions and eating raw goblins and fish, plus 10 litho-print ultra-mega-special collector's edition set of trading cards with the One "decoder" Ring ---you know, to bind them---then... well. Have a drink on me, because I see massive disappointment in your future.
As James Hetfield once said, "Sad but true..." Personally, I think the song is about being stuck with an egotistical shaft of a drummer dictating his life, but lyrics are subjective and open to interpretation. To each his/her own, I suppose. No seriously, read those lyrics. It's totally about Lars.
I still love you all though. <3<3<3

p.s. That was slightly off topic of OP, but felt the need to jump in based on the random crap I'm reading in reply :) To the OP, gratz on your bet!
