I've been playing the game, and I like the variety of weapons, vehicles, dropships and different fits; I think dust has a lot going for it in that respect.
However at the moment it feels more like a quake style shooter I.E Everyone running around and killing each other and completing the objectives only seems to be coincidental because an individual took a risk to hack.
There is no teamwork from what I can see; very few people use vehicles. If they do use a vehicle such as a LAV, it mostly seems to one guy driving rather than a guy, gunner and passenger - The only point when they become lethal to infantry.
I was hoping this game would involve teamwork, tactics and strategy. Like getting your team loaded on to several dropships, and deploying the troops at an objective with dropship gunners giving fire support. I could not imagine that happening at the moment.
One of the best moments of the game so far was when I was a gunner in a fully crewed tank(Leviathan), we drove through the objectives causing huge mayhem. We never died because of teamwork, our crew was good and we ended getting silly amounts of skill points at the end. The enemy team could not put up a concentrated teamwork effort to destroy us, and we was left roaming around the objectives killing every enemy in site. Unfortunately moments like that are relatively rare. The enemy could of pitted another fully crewed tank against us, or a squad of shock troops could of been used but it never happened because they wasn't organised. I've tried to get that setup again, but could not get people to work together like that again, it seemed to be a happy accident the first time.
It seems to biased towards infantry, especially frontline style infantry with upgraded equipment. It seems to be the people with upgraded assault rifles, playing the game on a individual level like deathmatch quake which tend to be racking up the kills and points.
I would like the game to involve more concentrated teamwork efforts with plans, vehicles and tactics being used. Surely some game mechanics could be used to encourage that sort playing like automatically assigning squads, and automaticly assigning an objective to deploy and mount a tank or something. The game without that, feels a bit 'samey' I want to reminiscing about past events like that tank bit all the while, not just always jumping into infantry battles which seem to be identical in every battle. There's tons of potential play styles available, but everyone seems to just pick assault rifles, and then play on a individual level. It seems a bit one dimensional compared to what it could be.
Maybe it's better with corp battles. |

I have this impression as well, but i believe it might be better down the road, when actual corps are suported and we will be able to go to battle with our own team with proper coms.
Anyway, imo this style of game, where we die/respawn/die/respawn/ ad eternum has a tendency to have less tatics than games where you can only die once per match, because, well, who cares if i die since i will be back in 10 secconds. This is not at all incompatible with the "imortal soldier" thing, you would be ready for deployment on the next match. |

Greetings,
First thing you need to remember is that we are testing this game. This means that some players are off... You actually testing different things. For example this weekend I am testing the Scout suits and their "roles". As such I am not going after the objectives, but fighting on the periphery to figure out how the scout works and where it's balance issues are. And I have to say I am having a pure blast with it. ;)
The second thing you need to remember is that at present, the only stats that really count are kills vs deaths vs hacks, as such there is no real incentive for people to do the objectives other than to prolong the battle to continue testing their chosen area.
Finally, you need to remember that these are all pickup groups. Until CCP adds the real group / corp mechanics it will remain pickup groups. If you want your team to work on the objectives, you need to lead them. Don't be be a ****, call them idiots, or morons, etc... Lead them. |

I agree.. the funnest moment I have had so far was when there was a guy on voice chat who had a tank and I played as his gunner..... (until someone sent a swarm up our be-hind.. just couldn't get the gun turned fast enough! {grin}) ..and then there was the time in the PvP mode where I used my LAV to rack up 5 kills.. without a gunner of my own.. but even funner was when I jumped in with a guy in his LAV and he flipped us over.. not once.. but twice!! LOL! Had fun trying to aim while he drove drunk it appears! {grin}
As a new DUST 514 player.. (and 7+ months EVE player) I have to agree that the tools in game so far for coordinating teams are fairly poor. I just "RTFM".. (read the __ manual) and it wasn't obvious to me that there even WAS Squad-level communication or an ability to set up a squad voice chat until I read the manual.
SO.. CCP.. I think the Squad voice is a great idea.. I could not spend more than 10 seconds trying to figure out how it works because you can't seem to NOT get tossed into a match right away.. and leaving that menu up WHILE being shot at.. well just doesn't work unless I want to sit there by the CRU and keep dying while I try to figure out how the comms work.. and who the hell is on my side!
PLEASE.. add a "delay" to the timer.. or some way to defer making your "drop" into the battle until we do a damn comm check! It will be the single-most fantastic thing you can do to make this BETA a LOT more enjoyable.. and once we have working comms the guys will start teaming up on there own like we do in EVE..and you'll get a 10-fold payback on the Beta feedback.. we just want to be able to communicate! TNX, .. stealth torpedo bomber specialist (in EVE), ---Wil
(PS.. when are the snipers going to get some "ghillie" suits.. or some stealth cloaking?? {evil grin}) |

Voice comms do make a massive difference. I played a match for the first time last night where 3 people were talking on comms and giving intel on enemy movements, which made the whole team way more effective on defense.
I was thinking about the general lack of teamwork, and noticed on the character info screen that it shows your warscore. I assume this score is the total number of points you've scored from kills and objectives. It might help if the scoreboard in the game included that warscore instead of just kills and deaths. The battlefield games did this and it was a huge incentive for people to use things like med kits, repair tools and so on. Another thing that might help is to give extra points to people killing enemies within the vicinity of an objective being hacked by a teammate. It would give a little extra incentive to watch someone's back instead of trying to ***** on the hack itself. |

Coms are of the keys here. One of the others is that there is no actual value if you are defending to actually defend. Point wise its better to let the game go to phase two and the base points to get hacked so you can hack them back. Lastly actually getting points in support roles is very hard so people don't do it. Seeing as the only one of these I can work on myself is to buy a good headset that's what I plan to do this weekend. |

i think that will improve latter but i also think more point reward point balancing and game mecanics like a diffrend spawn style i mentioned in a few threads would help it a lot more

Just getting into the game. Learning what the battlefields are like. Exploring the maps... i.e. not so worried about team play at this point. The game has a lot of team potential built into it, it'll come around naturally. It'll happen when the game goes live for sure... EVE will force that *evil grin* |

Why voice chat is set to "off" by default i will never know... Only thing thats annoyed me about the core game, player actions notwithstanding. |

Hmmm interesting, noticed this thread when reading about other bugs. I've had a mic all this time and not used it because I couldn't be arsed to dig through the settings (and didn't even know if voice comms were live yet because there are no indicators for players talking etc).
Going to get this sorted out and get on comms should make for much more interesting games, once the random hard crashes are fixed. |

Being in a major alliance in EVE, the lack of coherent comms and direction is killing me... even listening to DBRB as an FC would be a massive improvement at this point, lol |

I enjoy the game but there is a lack of solid teamwork right now, I was running logistics trying to keep team mates supplied with ammo and many of them ignored the nano hives and ran out of ammo. I'm sure things will improve with teamwork soon though this is a beta afterall. |

Yeah.. it's not obvious how ammo works.. I myself saw a couple nano hives, and at least knew what they were for, but couldn't recall how to use them (other than standing in them??).. so my guess is the guys you were trying to resupply had no clue what the blue glowing things on the floor were... and therefore ignored them.. of course if they had voice comms working you could have shouted.. "hey idiot...over here if you want more ammo!" {grin} ..and yes to "Mavado" above you're probably right..we're expecting too much.. us EVE guys are used to coordinated OPs.. (or you die..and die and die again until you have no isk left to by another ship) and not used to playing console games with a lot of random FPS guys. Should be interesting!.. and I expect I'll get my butt kicked a few more times before I get my act together. {grin} |

I've seen a couple matches with players that were working together. They absolutely steamrolled the oposition.
Getting a good player to co-pilot your vehicle can be quite difficult at times though. |

One of the best instances of team work I have seen yet in dust was when I was on the defense of craterlake Comm. Objective B had fallen so a bunch of guys started calling in LAVs at Objective A. We had about 10 LAVs on the cliffs surrounding the objective and three on the ground covering the entry points. needless to say nobody got thru the blockade. But over all I agree not much teamwork right now and I am really looking forward to Corps |
