Kay, so, I personally hate the idea of fitting folders because I'd personally hate to navigate through them in the fitting menu.
Sooo, rather than trying to describe what -I- personally would like to see, I figured I'd just make it for you guys.
Based on this early 2009 concept of the Fitting Screen, idea includes five 'Presets' that are embedded into the fitting menu of one suit. Rather than having to navigate the entire fitting menu or sort through folders, you'd just go to the suit in question and choose between one of the five presets you've made.
Examples:
Zulu Assault: B
Zulu Assault: C
Reduces clutter on the 'Saved Fittings' list so there's less to sort through by adding hierarchy. Its essentially what folders would do but this way you can assign different presets to the suit type itself.
"What about invalid/out of stock fittings?"
If it becomes invalid due to fitting costs or because you don't have enough modules for that specific fit, the letter simply turns red and acts as normal.
How would this work with a supply depot?
Easy. Sub-menus, same as everything else. Right now it's just 'Infantry > Suit'. This would just add another sub-menu to that with 'Infantry > Suits > ABCDE'. Makes it harder to change fittings on the fly but, then again, if you're being shot at and changing suits are a supply depot you kind of have to expect to take some shots anyway.
How would you navigate between the letter presets in the fitting menu?
R2 and L2 buttons ain't being used for much.

I would like folders for suits and assets when constructing fits though, it's such a pain in the ass digging through all 40,000 variants of shield extenders I have.
That I agree with whole-heartedly. Optimization for the damn lists would be great too considering that it lags out for weapons/modules but not dropsuits. It's weird.
I don't think folders is the right word so much hierarchy/sub-menus.
Something like:
-> High Slot
I---> Damage Modifiers
I------> Heavy Damage Modifiers
I------> Light Damage Modifiers
I------> Sidearm Damage Modifiers
I---------> Faction
I---------> ISK
I---------> Aurum
What do you think? Give me a description and I'll work some magic in GIMP.
