Yes, it has a sidearm classification (as it always has done).
Also, ALL sidearms fit in a light weapon slot.

Yes, but we all knew this when they released the Black Eagle Scout (well, maybe not all of us I guess - it was plain to see to me) which was forever ago now.

 You've never run a fit with dual sidearms? You don't know what you're missing! It's the only time I ever use sidearm damage mods. It was a must during the sidearm event.
How about light weapons in a heavy weapon slot? Even if you haven't done it, you must know it's a thing, surely - there's been much raging over that!
Back to the BE AR itself - on the BE Scout, if you try to replace the BE AR you can only put a sidearm in it's place - that was the first things I tried to do and how I realised. I guess you never tried to fit anything else in that slot (you wouldn't be the only one).
