Mainly use advanced, and my proto fits are Galmando and Minja. The Galmando is for escalation, especially in doms. The Minja is for fun. Also if I'm flying ADS then it must be proto fit to be effective/survivable. My fallback is an AUR-bought APEX Galmando if I've already invested too much ISK in the match.

Because I can, although I doubt many people would count themselves as having been "stomped" by me. I use for the fourth equipment slot, to increase my survivability and to fit better equipment. I've no room to fit better than an advanced weapon. |

Okay back on topic before I get ban.
I run PROTO because I can, I have ISK to burn. Unlike most player that don't take smart opportunities given to make ISK or make one.(I may sound like an a-hole and it all good to me)
Also believe that proto make the ISK go around unlike stagnant BPO, to bad Dust is in BPO stagnant hell.
To late now, I once wished CCP had made a mode for "only" Avd and Pro gear, No BPO or under Avd gear "of any kind" mode. PC is not the answer.

I use mostly BPO Quafe assault with PLC and Flaylock,
BUT
With the new patch, I have been using an advanced MinSault with proto jump mods and Advanced PLC... I never use my KLA, but it was GREAT!
I have yet to use one of the 7 proto JumpSault fits I have.

I full proto ( guns and gear ) when I am in a squad with my buddies however , my role is logi . Proto for me is the difference between 1000wp using adv rep tool and 3000wp using proto. Tactically speaking in these situations i as logi am responsible for getting the war barge strike . Outside of this I use proto to counter squads of proto .
Honestly thou - all other times I run mlt and free gear even advance is not worth the hassle . I've got so many points proto and basic seem about the same. |

Honestly - I have been a long time fan of my little Dragonfly BPO. I tend not to use proto at all and I have about 53m SP now with many suits and weapons proto.
That all changed when we got the new myofibs. Now I run a proto minmatar logi jumper LOL. Don't worry I suck and die lots!

It depends. If I start the match with STD and bump it up to proto, it means I'm trying a little bit harder.
If I START the match with proto, it usually means that in dicking around because the fit is rather fun. |

My most expensive pub fit is a 70k Adv Logi. I keep the really good stuff for FW and PC. If I'm the only guy on my team using AV? Damn right I'll pull out Proto Swarms, but it will be on an Adv Min Commando with mainly Adv modules and equipment.
I could run Proto until Dust finally shuts down, but I just choose not too. Proto in pubs is the equivalent of trying out for Little League Baseball at 25 years old. Yeah, you'll smoke those kids, but you look like a tool the entire time.

The only reason I like to use proto is cause I have more options with my fittings... That's what I really enjoy about dust anyway, the customization. At basic you pretty much have to stack hp to be effective but at proto you can dedicate half your suit to cooler modules.

I run quafe Ass GI 50%, Ass G1S 40% and Sent GI 9.8964465%
I think I've run proto in pubs MAYBE 5-6 times ever, and only I think twice for an entire match... ask zDemoncake how that went LOL.
As a general rule I run fairly high risk solo, so payout isn't worth the possibility of ISK loss.

I use proto because ccp doesn't give me a higher number of custom fittings and I'm not deleting my proto fits to make room for something else

I only use basic suits and basic guns. I hardly even own any adv suits or weapons. I got Proto for PC and basic for everything else.
I feel much better killing proto users with my basic suits and guns than I would had I also used Proto gear.
Not to mention it trains you much better when you use lesser gear. You learn more by losing than winning in many types of competition. So I figure that is likely true in FPS games as well.
Plus I always dream about one day getting to see an ISK efficiency stat. Mine would be pretty damn good I am sure. I would love to see the ISK efficiency stat of some proto users.
It is a big let down that we do not get kill mails in DUST. I understand we do a lot more killing though. Maybe at least a battle mail that can show our ISK efficiency and such for a battle. |

I'm assuming we're talking outside of PC matches.
Apart from my initial sprint-and-uplink fitting (which I normally swap out of within the first minute or so of the match), I run almost exclusively advanced suits.
I could probably afford running proto full time, but I like the challenge of facing proto squads in my advanced, base HP Amarr scout and trying to outsmart them. I'm not saying I'm always successfull, but the success-to-failure is steadily improving. And on the rare occasion I get annoyed enough to pull out full proto, I feel badass.
To elaborate a little: I think people should play whatever level of suits they want to play. What I don't get, though, is how anyone finds it fun rolling around in a squad full of nothing but highly skilled players in full proto. Prima Gallicus, for example, have some seriously OP squads going at times. They'll have the map locked down within the first three or four minutes of the match, then the rest is mostly pure stomping. I would be bored to tears doing that every match. Why not challenge yourself and go for something a bit more difficult? You'll end up so much more an accomplished player. |
