I'm not the most experienced player, but I've toyed with Forgeguns. To date, I've found them very little use other than for shooting at vehicles/turrets - any shots at moving infantry are pretty much useless without getting the aim spot on.
I hear of the occasional Forge Sniper, but it occurs to me that these weapons don't have a wide range of use in current state - save for shooting tanks from high up.
Can anyone give me some advice on how best to utilise this weapon? Or should I just CalSent/HMG? |

The AFG charges faster and has a splash radius (both better for hitting infantry), but cannot hold a charge. I would try the AFG. The forge gun takes some skill to use on faster moving, small targets like infantry. Just keep practicing.
But if you knee deep in infantry then the HMG is probably the better killing tool.

This, ever since they nerf the splash dmg the regular forge guns are only good for stationary targets unless you are always spot on, you can also use it for close quarters but good luck if you miss. The AFG are better for sniping due to the splash but it still requires a direct hit to kill someone and there isnt anything as satisfying as watching the rag doll effect. Use a mouse and keyboard is my advice. |

Thanks all - I'll try an AFG (completely missed this existed). I'm PS3 based, so mouse and controller is out, but I'll give it a crack!
Shame the Apex suits have a standard FG rather than an AFG. |

My recomendation - AFG + Cal sentinel Actualy you can move, tank some sniper rifles shoot (not all) and realtive fast back to targeting and destroing. Holding charges... not help much but make you sitting duck. When you get to use timming is the key.
Happy hunting.
Not much time left...

With some skill or luck, you can take out Sentinels in CQC (about some 10 meters away from yourself though) with an AFG. Especially if they're coming through the doorway. Their massive frame makes them easy targets (except hitting infantry isn't easy in the first place).
Please buff my Magsex. It doesn't hit hard enough...

Your better to use the standard , hell the breach to learn what you can and can't do and the time that's needed to do so if your fancy yourself a Forger .
AFG is so much easier and it still has the splash damage as well .
Stick to what's hard so it will become easier .
Doubts are like flies and should be treated as such and crushed .

The poor forge gun has been surpassed by the mighty swarm launcher but is still useful in its own right. Granted, you don't have your own ammo supply, because you can't carry nanohives, also you only have a sidearm to defend yourself from infantry, and you're a giant big fat slow moving target but hey apart from that it's ok... what am I saying.. it's really a terrible weapon BUT you can get off some good sniping shots if you use the Assault Forge Gun - the charge is faster and the damage is higher than its regular counterpart.
If you're using the PS3 controller what you can try doing is getting the elevation to your target set with the right stick (especially if target is hiding behind an obstacle), then just pop in an out of cover using only the left stick as your aiming device - makes those tricky shots much easier - and once you hit yes, the rag doll really is fantastic.
I've got all my forge skills maxed (except proficiency) but I found the Cal Sentinel is one of the best suits to carry it. It's much faster than the other suits and has a good recharge if a sniper has a bead on you or you're being harassed by infantry at a distance. If infantry are within sidearm range well then you're going to die.
Most importantly, have fun with it. It can blow away LAV's and makes dropships rock back and forth with a good hit so it's still a potent AV weapon. |

It's also nice during those stalemate hallway battles or shooting from the balcony into the objective on the Gallente Research Facility.
Protip: Even though the breach says you cannot move when charging, you can still jump to move around. This is also faster than walking with any of the other forges while charging/holding a charge.

All forgers like different forge guns for different reasons.
So practice a few matches with each one.
Not every match is a good one for a forger.
I like the assault variants, because people hiding behind a box from a gun that blows up tanks is stupid. The assault variants have splash damage. In most cases you'll need a direct hit though unless they are very low health the splash damage is minimal and the radius is terrible. I've gotten so used to leading the time on the assault guns that the other ones feel weird.
There are a few maps that have really long hallways next to the points, where from the right angle and being far enough away will allow you to murder the hell out of people.
Get friendly with vehicles.
I use a free LAV and a super cheap base dropship to get where I need to be for fighting vehicles.
Learn to lead your shots. Watching how pilots fly dropships will have you downing them in no time. They'll practically fly into your shots once you know the same sort of crap they all do after getting hit. Tankers panic a lot of times because most of them are vagina filled. Nothing is sweeter than watching a panicked tanker cost another tanker his vehicle because he pins them both down being a damn spasmo.
It's something I'm going to start devoting more time to after the 5MCC.
After the vehicle patch I'm going to be busy.

Mkb is still viable it just takes some getting used to, I use it for forging and sniping and can still bave a controller handy for other things. You're not the most mobile clone in the block in a heavy anyways, practice strafing with the keys, and the jump turn is lightning quick on Mkb. I favor the assault variant also, good for getting quick rounds down range..
Mark a$$ tricks, and bags of dicks....

I always use assault forge and pack a breach SMG. If you don't get them with a direct hit, take down some shields with that splash damage and go to town with the SMG :3

If you plan to get good at Forge gun infantry sniping, realise that it will take a lot of time and a LOT of practice but my god, does that gun deliver when you need it to!
Nothing better than one shot splatting a proto heavy covered with logi webs who thinks he is invincible!

The basic forge is best for anti-infantry sniping shenanigans IMO
Sure you don't get splash and it charges slower, but you are in total control of when the shot fires instead of trying to time the charge perfectly with lining up your crosshair on the target
Aim with both sticks. If your crosshair is close to being on target but not red, use the left stick to walk it into the right position.
Leave enemies near guard rails alone, they have a nasty habit of absorbing the forge projectile even when it looks like there's a large gap to shoot through and your crosshair is red. |

It really only has it's niche uses now and the hilarity from watching someone ragdoll 50 feet into the air.
Because, that's why.

Thanks - I think I'm just realising you can only find stuff on the market that you have the skills to use - need FG at 4 before I get access to that! |
