The new unreal tournament has graphics that far outpaces anything we have in dust, and the effects are so much more crisp. As the youtuber stated, he was getting about 120fps on his computer with no issues, and this is just pre-alpha! Compared to this dust is a rotting fantasy right now. I remember long ago that CCP stated that the reason that they didn't want to move to the unreal engine 4 was because everything it had they developed into the unreal engine 3. Well... I read another post somewhere that there is certain code that no one wants to touch because they have no clue how it paths out. maybe it's time to admit that the developers of the unreal engine can do things better then CCP can and start anew, on a new platform. When PS3 support goes out, then what CCP? dust is going to die off due to it being left behind, other companies are going to make better games on the newer platforms that are better suited to handle games then old clunky last gen hardware.
I think I'm going to get unreal tournament, and leave this behind. I hear that community modders can even make mods and maps, then sell them for a profit (last I heard). CCP you might want to consider opening dust up to the community. let modders who know what their doing make the missing assets and even new more interesting maps. Believe me, if you can get a modding community to help with dust, this game can explode. But only if you let it happen. |

Looks incredible. I am currently downloading.

while they may have modified UE3 to meet their needs, UE4 already does it, and is probably more efficent at it. not to mention that UE4 uses C++ while UE3 uses Unreal Script (which is just a derivative of C++). So moving the code over should not be too difficult, the hardest part would be changing the syntax over. But in the end the game would become more streamlined and easier to work with in the future. what they have now is just a mess. |

C++ is not my language but I hear that ports are very difficult when going from 3 to 4.
The choice CCP is making seems to be a popular one right now. I feel like this is because of games being already very deeply rooted in modified UE3 versions that are built specifically for the game at that point. |

None the less, I still firmly believe that CCP should create an event where people who are familiar with UDK to build maps and weapons for the game. Free labor! who would complain? I'm sure the community would very much appreciate having the game fleshed out. And those who participate could get some type of thing named after them as thanks for their work(like a suit or officer weapon or what ever else) community made data would still go through CCP to ensure that everything works fine (prevent hidden cheats coded in) so all they got to do is QA. |

I have gotten bored with PHP so I guess I will dig into that. You certainly make UE4 sound more attractive than the things I have seen from developers. |

since I'm not familiar with PHP or server side scripting I would suggest if you want to get into C++, trying Java as a base to learn (not Javascript, just java) it's a bit more flexible and with the right compiler can be very forgiving when it comes to logic errors (sometimes a worst the program just won't run or will repeat indefinitely, but easy to terminate) and some compilers even have a check solution that will catch errors in the code(unreal script had such a compiler long ago, can't remember what it was called but it was great) but from there you can transition to C++ with knowing the general flow of the logic. I'm currently in college for just this reason, and I'm having a lot of fun coding. Maybe someday I'll have my own game....maybe lol |

The overall logic flow is pretty similar I just really dont like dealing with compilers and what not.
I would recommend you take a look at PHP as server side code is an amazing asset even if it is just knowing basic stuff like creating a database of accounts so that people can login.
PHP is also the easiest way to toy with MySQL which is pretty much essential in applications of any language. |

SQL! hisss!!! lol i had to take 2 database courses, friggen melted my brain for some reason. i got through it, but i always left with a migrane. not sure why SQL was so hard for me, i knew the concepts and the syntax, but i never liked it for some reason. even worked with SQLserver and managed a database of my own, using java programs to add modify and delete data remotely, but still... was not a big fan. eh either way ill take a look into it. |
