Over the life time of dust I got around 50+ new players to try the game, all from my old clans from other fps games like planetside, cod, counterstrike ect.
Out of all those players 0 of them stuck around for more then a few weeks. And out of all of them none of them cared about the proto stomping, or the gear progression or the long skill times.
The thing that drove them all away and the same thing they ask me anytime I ask them to come back and give it another try is the unplayble bugs.
Buggy terrain, getting stuck on corners, getting stuck on cliffs, having a seizures when on slopes, bullets not hitting targets properly, the low frame rate and the lag. Fix these issues first if you want new players to hang around, I guarantee so many would give it another shot if these where fixed. |

To be honest you get a little mad when someone has better gear then you, but at least you know you can eventually have that gear. When a piece of rock catches your foot and you get stuck in the open and die because of that, its 10x worse feeling especially knowing that rock would've killed you no matter what and there's no "getting better" vs rocks or bugs in general.
Another example that feels 100x worse then being killed by someone who out gears you, is seeing someone in proto gear at 5% health and you shoot them and the shield effects go off but no damage registers. That feels like the game stole a kill from you. If you want to see how bad the hit detection is go use the kb/m for a few games, I feel like one of the reasons aim assist is so strong for controllers is to hide the bad hit detection problems. If they toned it down you would start seeing the same issues with controllers. And infact if anyone remembers back controllers did have horrible hit detection before aim bot was introduced. Most ppl feel that when they "fixed it" they basically just added such strong aim assist that if you just aim in the general direction the server sais , ya sure, why not, he was kinda in your range, all your bullets hit. |
