It's a bit of a double post as I mentioned this in the hotfix Echo post but was interested on peoples thoughts so decided to give it it's own post too. It's not so much a question more a thought process but in his latest hotfix Echo update CCP Rattati mentioned changing the PG/CPU of the medium frames to make them more viable.
Why run, for example, the advanced medium when it costs less ISK to run a basic assault AND you get a couple of hundred more eHP and the medium frames ability to add an extra module is compensated for by the assaults bonus'?
A basic assault fitted with all basic modules costs around 11,500 ISK and has it's bonus'
an advanced medium fitted the same way with one extra basic damage mod costs around 18000 ISK with almost 200 less eHP if you add complex modules to make up the eHP deficit you are getting on for 24000 ISK for the fitting. More than double the assault.
SP wise I need to get the advanced medium before I can get the basic assault but once there the medium frames, even with more pg/cpu are seemingly pointless. It's less about the fitting abilities and more about cost/risk for me. There just doesn't seem to be a reason to run the standard medium suits. Stay in the starter fits until you've got an assault. Then run that.
Not sure what the answer is but maybe it's something either like make the specialist suits much more expensive so it's an investment to run them, or don't unlock them until level 5 or both.
If I'm almost better off, from an ISK/survivability point of view, running a basic assault than a prototype medium why would I run the medium? and if I can afford to run prototype mediums, why wouldn't I be running prototype assaults?? I expect the same is true for scouts and lights. Basic heavys seem to be slightly different because eHP/HMG.
Not moaning or complaining just interested in peoples views. I know this is kind of delving into the tiericide argument but, again personally, I'd rather see the non-specialist frames have a worthwhile place and, arguably, see the specialist frames be just that and for special occasions.
Does any of that make sense? Anyway thanks for reading and I'll be dying for the cause in my trusty starter tonight. |

Thanks for the reply.... Clearly as I still mainly run starter suits I don't do much slaying either!!!
I can see the basic suits being useful to test stuff out on and their better cpu/pg etc could definitely be useful if you've got the ISK for modules.
Maybe it's because I currently only have Gallente suits to work with but as far as experimenting with fittings goes if for example I only had a G-1 Medium and an Assault G-1 to work with, they both cost the same ISK, but the Assault is 300-400,000 SP more.
They also both have the same slot layout. With the Assault I could use one of the Low Slots for something other than armour and still have more armour than the medium frame, meaning that I can try out the fitting and still be more survivable.
Then with the assault bonus helping with damage slightly I'm not losing much not putting a damage mod in the high slot meaning that I can try other things out here too and still be slightly better than standard at the shooty shooty side of things.
Arguably the PG/CPU bonus is slightly negated by the reduced fitting cost the Assaults have for weapons etc too.
I'd like to run things that aren't the starter suits but it seems to make sense to wait until I've saved the SP for an assault and splurge rather than steadily progress through the mediums first as I could runner a better 'cheap' fit on one of them?
Feel like I must be missing something though? Maybe just overthinking! and maths has never been my strongest suite.
Thanks agian! |
