Yeah, ever since they changed the "edges" of the sockets, some of the ground spawns have a crazy radius where you can't call in vehicles. It's worth some time, however, playing around to see where the edges of these areas are, so you can quickly get to them to call in a vehicle at the start of the round.
FWIW, I think the change was implemented to stop the RDVs from getting "lost" on their way to your vehicle drop or the "yoyo-ing" that used to occur all the time, but now rarely does. |

Personally, I don't know why the RDV's don't just come straight down rather than their seemingly random approaches, but what do I know...
Trust me, Leadfoot10, a RANDOM approach for the RDV is the BETTER approach. Coming in "Cloaked", never using a straight-in decent, and cloaking back as soon as it starts leaving, saves your vehicle delivery more times than you realize.
Back before the May release of the game, my vehicle deliveries were constantly being destroyed by nameless enemy guns before I could even get in them. One of the Vet players finally explained, a good player is always watching the far side of th map for RDV approaches, and the Rail/Forge/Installation weapons had enough RoF and range to destroy the "Balos" before it finished the whole long delivery process. GǪWe knew the RDV is called a "Balos" because when you destroy it, it loses control and rolls over in mid air before smacking onto your (or someone else's) vehicleGǪ and the Hud screen would say "Balos Destruction 150+ WP"!!! SWEET,GǪhighest single-kill award you could get in the game!
These days are different. Now that the range and power of our big guns have been reduced, the only chance anyone has of getting off enough shots at a Balos to score it, is if it comes in on a nice straight smooth approach.
And if you notice, Balos-kills very rarely happen these days anymore (GǪthank goodness for those goofy turkey-leg decents!)
Universe of good wishes for the 49, especially CCP Eterne...
