There are a dozen games coming out in the coming year that will take players away from Dust 514. Slowly players will migrate away from the PS3 and as that happens our playerbase will shrink. It's sad because CCP Rattati has done wonders for this game. I hate to see all of his work squandered because CCP Shanghai won't move Dust to PC or PS4.
Will Dust 514 ever truly die? No. F2P games are hard as **** to kill. There will always be Brazilian players willing to login and play for hours on end. Will it ever have a healthy playerbase? My intuition tells me no. The only hope we have of salvaging this game's future is for CCP to release Eve: Legion or DUST 514 (PS4).
But not to completely derail OP's thread... Phantom Pain looks good. It's not the exact same thing, but have you checked out Helldivers? It came out today. Crossplatform, crosspurchase PS3/PS4/PS Vita. Top-down shooter with future tech and co-op. AND IT ACTUALLY HAS PVE!!! Lot's of polish.

Dreis Shadowweaver wrote:Generic 'X game will kill Dust' thread #654345678 Dust 514 being F2P pretty much guarantees that it won't be killed. The prospect of returning to your character after a month long break to see all of the passive SP you have accrued is just too tempting. People come back time and time again.
The players we never hear from again are the ones who find some game that really does it for them. A game that puts its hooks in them and that's all they want to play. When that happens we lose a player for good, or at least for a very very long time.
The longer Dust 514 remains on this outdated console the more players we lose in the scenario I described above.
I'm on a soapbox, I know, but I needed to get this out. I hope Rattati is listening.

Dust 514 needs polish, for sure. Rattati is doing a good job of iterating on Dust and I hope he continues. The cynic in me wonders just how much of this content can be migrated to Legion... It isn't as if you can copy/paste code from the PS3 to PC.

You would be surprised how nice you can get most PC games to run on a run-of-the-mill PC with a slightly above average CPU and graphics card. But you if you want a beastly gaming rig that will run insane FPS and is as quiet as a ninja fart then do it!
