Playing DUST when all of a sudden, I hear a hair dryer.
I take off my headset - it was my PS3
I instantly left battle and shut the poor thing off, now waiting for it to cool down.
Man, I was shocked.

Like Otoky said, it's probably Sony's subpar thermal paste. If your PS3 is out of warranty then find a tutorial on Youtube on how to replace the thermal paste. You will notice a difference in performance.
Kevall Longbottom has done it before. You might send him a mail sometime.

I highly recommend keeping your ps3 close to floor. It will stay much cooler. 8 years, still going strong. A cryo chamber will also work. |

I guess Dust 514 turns Ps3's into Dust xD lolololol.
I have many other games on (Disc) but the only shooter I play is Dust 514 xD

When I flipped it on it's side I nearly burnt my hand on it's belly.
I later noticed it was pretty warm in the room and had to open the window to let some cold air in, so it can cool down easier.
Played again later with it flipped on the side and this time it didn't pretend to be a hair dryer lol.

Keep your devices in well ventilated areas, if you care about them, people!
Some devices are extremely prone to overheating. PS3s are among those. Especially the small ones. You could put cheesecloth over the vent and risk overheating those things...
I can't even use my tablet while under some blankets without risking burning my hand.

Ha mine has been doing that for quite a while now , a year now give or take a month. But after the deployment of warlords my oltrusty ( 8 years old ) baby has bbeen shutting down Cople at y mid game .... This dosent happen with any other game other than dust and normally happens when im going 20+ kills it's really quite rage inducing .. probably time to just buy a new ps3 .

Did someone say TWO years old? If you bought the PS3 brand new (not a refurb or used unit), there is no way the thermal paste is failing you so soon. Heat and dust are the things that the "fan" starts working overtime against.
If you own a PS3 for a year or more, and you never opened the chassis to check for dust, you need to. Especially in the hotter countries or towns.
A little screwdriver, a can of dust-blower, and one of the do-it-yourself photo instructions from the internet, are all you need. And when you lift out all the parts:
1. You'll be shocked how much TINY dust (not dust bunnies, but thick spots of talcum powder sized dust ) tucks inside your machine after a year! Holy crap, you HAVE to blow and wipe that stuff off!!!
2. You usually DON'T have to take apart the section where the thermal paste is. That paste is usually just fine in the first four years, as long as you remember to re-open and re-clean that dust from inside your PS3.
GǪI NEVER try to mess with the thermal paste in my unit.
Universe of good wishes for the 49, especially CCP Eterne...

Little known fact - the fans can be reversed to blow the dust out of PS3 slim (not sure about superslim).
Unplug power cord Press and hold eject button as you plug power back in Fans should fire up in reverse at full RPM for several seconds
