With meta level lockouts would it be possible to make the APEX suits totally unlocked? Basically they would work exactly like the starter fits where the base modules are all free but any changes require paying for the module/weapon.
We would still be locked out of for example stacking it full proto and going up against a bunch of newbies (unless they entered a high meta area) |

Or you could just buy the proto suit isk equivalent, and fit it accordingly....
Fixed.

Im thinking more along the lines that they are obviously moving Dust towards the "vision" for how they wanted Legion to work.
Go stand in the corner and think about how things ARE while some of us think about what COULD BE. |

I'll be honest, OP, it sounds to me like you want to be able to run proto suits at no SP investment+isk discount.... |

What I want is a way for newbies to be able to use these as a true advantage. Currently the fittings are mediocre and unless you have skilled into every single part of the suit to some extent they are bad. Newbies would benefit greatly by having these suits and being able to toy with fittings based on meta level as their skills move up.
By having all core skills for them maxed out I can make great use of them but that is not what they were intended for. If this was about me I would say take them back out so that my wallet actually presents an advantage instead of being nothing more than a bragging right. |

Honestly. All indicators point to tiericide improving the overall gameplay by reducing frontloaded objects. It also cuts the disparity between new players and vets. Further if we tiericide the suits down and differentiate by fitting the missing costs can be shifted to modules with no fuss.
There's a lot of advantage to making APEX worthwhile. Personally I think the APEX base fits for LP should be superior to the AUR fits but I doubt that'll fly past marketing.

there is no way that you can give new players an advantage without vets abusing it...

I always assumed they would be calculated exactly the same as other suits, a summation of the meta level of the suits and modules. The suit may be proto but the modules and weapons are all standard, this will probably put them at the upper end of STD Metalevel or lower end of ADV Metalevel (likely the former). That being said they would probably be usable in all situations regardless.

I don't look at APEX that way.
They are better than militia and std fits. So the halfway stopgap between STD and Adv, but free.
So they are good for new players to save ISK with while still being viable. They also show new potential modules for newer (and older) players to check out. Most people immediately gravitate towards the firefight mods like damage, extenders, and armor plates. APEX lets you run in a situation where the suit has different advantages (small as they may be) and make you become interested in trying out new modules.
Of course they are not as good as ADV and higher ISK versions -- but this is a game of economics. Proto is only kept in check by ISK cost. Being able to run suits for no ISK really pushes that line as it is. Apex suits take no skills. They are also free. If we could put on proto modules then it does several things:
1.Completely removes Dropsuit skilling. We might as well delete that and refund everyone their SP -- because you can now run the proto dropsuit (and mod it how you want) with no SP reqs. Personally speaking, all I can say to that is GTFO. But objectively speaking -- do you think CCP is going to allow that?
2. Said proto dropsuit costs nothing. APEX users can run full proto, full proto mods, and proto guns at LESS isk than the Skilled ISK counterpart. I also doubt CCP is ok with this.
There is a reason that there are no proto module blueprints.....
And as far as tiercide goes...not all players agree with that. I happen to be one of those players. There are others too.

If you want to use your wannabe proto scrub suit then go and play FW/PC. You want meta lockouts so you pay the price for it.

Apex dropsuits should have come with std weapons and adv modules in my opinion.

APEX should be modifiable with special APEX BPOs that can only be placed on APEX suits. These BPOs wouldn't show up in your assets; rather when you go to modify an APEX suit, instead of bringing up your assets it brings up a menu with all APEX BPOs for you to use. Makes them customizable, not overpowered, and allows new players to play with different fits while letting veterans get some bling on with fits they are familiar with. Hell, it allows veterans to instruct newberries on good fits to try out without the newberries losing money.

This has been discussed in other threads and I think that it is 100% the best way to go. As with everything else we just have to kind of wonder if it is possible and keep throwing out ideas until something sticks.
