The Adjustable Focus Laser would do max damage at its focal range, with falloff in both directions along the beam (both toward the operator and away).
When firing the Adjustable Focus Laser (when R1 is depressed) L1 would lengthen the focal length and L2 would shorten the focal length. (A glowing dot along the beam would be helpful for indicating focal length.)
This might be interesting as an Amarr Heavy Weapon. The need to adjust the focal length to the range of your target is an added balance factor which would allow the weapon to be more powerful at the focal point.
Hand/Eye coordination cannot be taught. For everything else there is the Learning Coalition.

Really like this idea. Makes the weapon more dynamic and versatile.
- Would the ranges effect heat buildup? - would damage be constant regardless of range? Or would the up close beam do more damage than the long range since it would be more condensed
+1
Who cares what some sniper has to say.
CCP, let's push for the license of Dust/Legion on both current Gen consoles!

We could have that and I'm not saying its a bad idea but
More Important:
Grenades LAV HAV DS Second Equipment SMG or Shotgun Melee Weapon More ScR variation.....

Hmmm what concerns me is that the weapon is allowed to have extremely high DPS because of its forced range limitations.
How would you balance this out, as not to make a death machine at any range?

That's an awesome idea. Require aiming 3 dimensionally. How could keys be rebound to adjust this? Mechanically speaking it is a nightmare to implement to have any sort of fluid usage.
Even if it could be made to be used fluidly and freely, this would be the absolute hardest to use gun in the game.
Still though, I like it. If CCP does and comes up with a way to do it I'll skill into it for sure. |

Thing is, besides the ScR variants and the Grenade, this LR variant would take less time than all of those items. There is so much we could do to increase Amarrian weapon variety NOW. And I've pretty much resigned any hope that we will get any new Amarrian models... the art team sucks too much Caldari ****. And they've laid off or transfered most of the art team anyway...
But we can still do these items without art!
GÇóAScP made into Autopistol, in lieu of the SMG that will never happen. GÇóAnti-Vehicle and "Adjustable" LR Variants. GÇóBreach and Burst ScRs. GÇóFlux 'nade retextured to an Amarr Grenade. It would pass, let's be honest. Just paint it gold and slap a Sign of Faith on there. Give it Amarr stats. BAM! Done.

Im pretty sure this will confuse more people than anything.
Is it a bad idea?
No.
But I think development resources will be better spent on things that more than half a percent of the playerbase will puzzle out how to use.

How would you balance this out, as not to make a death machine at any range? I don't believe I said "extremely". I said that having to adjust the focal length in order to apply full damage would be a balancing factor, to allow increased damage when you did get the focal length right, just as the necessity of preheating a Laser Rifle allows it to due great damage if you do it right.
With most rifles you have to aim in the X and Y axis. With a Focus Laser you would also have to aim in the third axis to apply max damage.

You would have to stop firing to throw a grenade, and there would be no aiming down sights.

I just had an idea and wanted the throw it out there. I was not trying to monopolize Amarr development. I just don't see this idea working with anything other than a laser.

But you mentioned no aiming down sights. I really don't see a laser being at all useful without ADS. Maybe the other shoulder button? |

I am.... its the regular Laser Rifle..... I still see idiots rushing at me, not pre-heating, and firing it in semi automatic bursts like a bloody flash light.

I am not against ADS on the Adjustable Focus Laser, I just can't think of a better way of adjusting the focus than to use the L1 and L2 buttons.

But honestly I'd rather see better bonusing for amarr suits for laser use in general (only the assault can deploy the damn things worth acrap) and better overall weapon selection along standard and support lines, like, you know, light AV and a heavy weapon?
