Personally I'd like to see the east coast again or perhaps visit something in the mid west on the edge of the Divide. Boston, Massachusetts would be a fantastc. Lots of American history to play around with, lots of english history for that tongue in cheek Fallout is known for, Chinese Subs in the harbour, the CommonWealth, Salem, Mutated Moose and Black Bears (Yao Guai), New England Wasteland, heaps of potential quirky tribal groups. For DLC you have Amtrak Rails down to Providence or New Haven following messages from the Abbey of the Road, Commonwealth specific DLC or main plot content, etc.
I'd rather see something West Coast again, but New Vegas is my favorite game of all time, so yeah. East Coast has cities n' ****, yeah. But the West Coast has got the natural beauty and weird ****. And there is so much lore pacjed into the west coast they could touch on. Also, if Skyrim is any good indication of anything, Bethesda has got natural beauty down pat, so any of the National Parks could be made to look amazing.
I'd like to see Salt Lake City.
The BoS is taking shelter amongst the ruins of the city, deep in a bunker in the middle of them. A Vault. They are the last of the Brotherhood, but they aren't the Brotherhood we know. They are backed into a corner, with two nations hunting them down. Like a snarling animal, they are willing to do whatever it takes to survive... and they've found something in that vault that might just grant them survival.
To the southeast of the city ruins lay the remains of New Canaan, and the remains of what once was a thriving agricultural civilization. Covered in salt, by order of Salt Upon Wounds. The White legs now make their base here, but the Dead Horses and Sorrows hunt them down.
The flats are contended by the remnants of the White Legs, the 80s Gang, the Dead Horses and other tribal/raider forces. Perhaps some of them could know how to fix up cars/buggies for some death-derby combat out on the vast expanse of salt? The Legion makes a small presence here, mostly trying to recruit some tribes they find interesting.
The lake between the flats and city is almost completely dried up with only puddles remaining, but otherwise a complete radioactive waste. Some mutated creatures make their home here.
The NCR has expeditionary forces to the southwest of the region. After the battle of the Dam, the NCR wisened up and became much more militaristic and aggressive. Their troops are now better outfitted, and better trained than ever before. The Rangers in particular are a force to be reckoned with. Even Legionaries fear them now. Officially, the NCR is there as an expeditionary force and is trying to extend trade routes as far as the can. Unofficially, they are hunting the remnants of the BoS.
The Legion has mountain camps to the east of the city. They are collecting slaves from the area, hunting the BoS, and clashing a bit with the NCR. They are generally just doing standard Legion activity.

OMG. MIT will provide the androids, and baseball at Fenway Park...ohhhhh booyyy! there are 70 universities and colleges in metro Boston, museums, history, art, and high tech (Boston Robotics) etc. perfect place. And heaps of museums of American history, to give us that pseudo-patriotic feel that Fallout 3 gave us.
I really hope they don't go back to the East Coast...
And if they do, I hope they at least don't make it so boringly paleted...
I wouldn't mind it if the outside world was mostly like that, but the interiors of whatever communities/ruins should try to have some color. I get that they were trying to go for a bleak and desolate look in Fallout 3, but its been over 200 years since the bombs fell. There will be at least a little bit of hardy vegetation growing back. Thistles, maybe some mutated conifers.
The communities won't be so pathetic after such a long time, either. People bounce back. I found it just unbeleiveable that people were living in a ******* nuclear crater, when there was a largely intact town literally right outside their front gate... and nobody lived in that entire town... just flocked to the radioactive crater instead (despite even stupid raiders knowing that radiation is bad).
Fallout 3 looks like the bombs dropped 20 years before the story, not 200. Part of the reason I much prefer the West Coast Fallouts over it. They seem much more believable to me. Nations are sprouting back. Cities are being reclaimed. Agriculture is a thing again. The Brotherhood aren't ******* pansies that go around like the Red Cross. They are badasses on the West Coast, and they don't take **** from anyone. The Enclave isn't a caricature of the West Coast Enclave, but a caricature of the US govt gone mad.
Fallout 3 is one of my least favorites because of all that. I still like it, but it just feels wrong. It almost feels like a fanfic more than a real canon story..

Nobody makes Fallout games quite like them, which is comprised of the serie's creators (most of them).
Yeah. A lot of Black Isle members were in Obsidian, and that went a long ways towards rooting the game firmly into the lore.
Just. Everything was better in NV. -Dialog was vastly superior. The percentage based system in F3 made Speech and Barter useless. -Weapons didn't feel so... cartoonish. They looked and felt real. -The people felt more genuine. More like real people than those you saw in F3. Moira Brown, anyone? Ugh. -The factions had history. Even the new faction, The Legion, has more history than any of the factions you saw in F3 besides the Brotherhood. They rooted the Legion firmly into the lore i n just a single game. Feels like they've always been there. -The world was just more interesting overall. I felt more curious and interested in the back story of the land than I ever did in F3. F3s back story seemed like it was neglected in favor if shoving more old American History in it, because DC.
Yeah, another Obsidian Fallout would get me more pumped up than anything Bethesda could ever do. They're still my favorite devs, but Obsidian just does Fallout better.
