... Does anyone else feel like the Gallente Assault proficiency is basically necessary to use it against strafers?
Seriously, the dispersion, as well as the recoil, on that thing feels ridiculous and overwhelming when coupled with the heat up mechanic.
So to anyone that says the Gallente Assault proficiency is useless, I totally disagree.

It's hard when it hits but it is very easy to miss and the heat buildup doesn't forgive missing even on semi auto.

Also, um, not really. I use it just fine without sharpshooter outside the assault suit. It does for me. Feels like it's about to jump out of my mercs hand.

Grand Master Kubo wrote: The Ion Pistol is the best sidearm for close-quarters one on one engagements. To use it efficiently you have to know when to charge shot and when to spam fire. Unfortunately, Cat Merc was right. The officer Ion Pistol is underwhelming and there is very little reason to use it over the proto Ion Pistol. Maybe I'm just conditioned to seeing a huge leap from proto to officer like for the plasma cannon. I remember when I first skilled into the Ion Pistol I joined a match that was about to end and killed you twice with the standard Ion Pistol. Pure luck shot because you were strafing mad and we were at the Gallente Research Facility. I was stressed too cause you were using the Bolt Pistol. Match ended with me killing you twice and you killing me once.
Pretty interesting match.

Nocturnal Soul wrote:The Ion pistol is miles ahead of every pistol besides the Bolt and breach. I honestly don't know what you're complaining about, if this gun was Amarrian it'd be my go to side arm. It leaves you vulnerable if it doesn't kill with the charged shot. Also the range is bad, the dispersion is wide and the semi auto is ok.
In all honesty I prefer the Assault Scrambler Pistol because it's consistent against high HP enemies. The Ion Pistol is good against fast and low HP enemies because it can usually finish them off, but it struggles a lot against high HP enemies particularly those with high armor.
I know what you're thinking: ' the Scrambler Pistol struggles more against Armor'. On paper that's true, but in my experience the low dispersion of the standard Scrambler Pistol more than makes up for the decreased damage to armor. The Assault Scrambler Pistol also does well because of its rate of fire. The Burst Scrambler Pistol is bad at hip fire but does MAD damage when you ADS and is my preferred Sniper sidearm. The Breach of course has a potent head shot. Bolt Pistol is amazing as long as you hit, which isn't as difficult as one would think. The Flaylock just destroys people (Take off shields and half of armor with CRand then spam the GN-13).
So why do I even use the Ion Pistol? Mostly because I want to keep my Gallente Assault as racially correct as possible. If I just wanted versatility then the Scrambler Pistol would be my weapon of choice.

So to anyone that says the Gallente Assault proficiency is useless, I totally disagree. Nope. I was using the Viz ScR and the Black Eagles Assault Rifle combo the other day and may god when I ran out of ScR rounds that Plasma Rifle just kept me alive killing things. I think the whole 70 rounds in a magazine is more than enough to keep it effective against strafers. I feel like you didn't really read my post at all. I'm talking about the Ion Pistol: not the AR.
