Ambushes are really pretty bad right now.
1 in 6 or maybe 1 in 7 is actually a fair match where one side is not crushing the other.
Part of this is gear. Sometimes one side is proto gear and the other is not.
Part of the problem is individual play. Players are trying to get their 150 WP or trying to accomplish some daily mission objective.
Part of the problem is the blob. Once the initial battle is over, 16 players run around trying to find the new spawn point and camp out.
Or show off. I was in one match relatively late at night, where one player was throwing proto grenades and the rest of his team was dropping nanohives and protecting him. He got like 20 kills, I think entirely with proto grenades.

Anyhow this is not meant to solve the whole problem, just mitigate the problem. And it's an initial idea, so some work would have to be put into it.
  Here we go.
Give every dropsuit, every weapon, piece of equipment, module etc. a number from 1-5. Militia being 1, basic 2, advanced 3, proto 4, and officer 5.
You would then average out the total items for a dropsuit fitting to come up with a number. If every item is a militia one the suit gets a 1.0, if every item is a proto it gets a 4.0.
If I'm in the militia suit and kill the proto player, I get 50 times 4.0 or 200 WP.
If I'm in the proto suit and kill the militia player, I get 50 divided by 4.0 or 12.5 points.
And you can tweak it, so that you don't get half points, you always round up or always round down. Or dropsuits are 1 or 1.25 or 1.50 etc.

Maybe weigh the dropsuit and the weapon higher. Maybe weigh damage modifiers up a level. Maybe weigh scanners down a level.
  -
Anyhow, this would give some incentives to folks to go down a few notches with their gear and give the newbies some hope.
proto gear vs proto gear would be 50 for a kill.
militia gear vs militia gear would be 50 for a kill
proto gear vs basic gear would be 25 or 100 for a kill

sounds like nameless, though it could have been an NF squad, nade all the blobs then gun down the maimed but squad sizes are getting reduced, but a squad of good players is still going to stomp anyway |

We already have a system which assigns numerical values to items which increase based on what tier it is, known as Meta Level.

I thought about using Meta Levels, but they have gotten strange in the last couple of upgrades.
The "Gallente Combat Advanced Loadout" is listed as a 32 Meta Level, but everything on it is advanced equipment.
The "Gallente Combat Standard Loadout" is a 9 meta level, with basic/std equipment.
Militia Weapons are listed as Meta level 0 or 1. Seemingly at random. The first half of the list is zero and the second half is one. It's not alphabetical order, because it starts over halfway through. a regular grenade is zero, while an av grenade is one, while a swarm launcher is zero.
Then you have things like the 'Blindfire' AR, the 'Pyrus' AR and the AR. They all seem to have the same stats, but the first two are Meta 3 and the third Meta 1. They would all be basic or 2.0 in my idea. Go with the base weapon, not the AUR equivalent.
If these variations were more accurate or did more damage or let you run faster, whatever it was, then give them a higher rating, the numbers on the screen don't seem to back that up.

I'm not saying I'm against it, Meta levels are just a little weird right now. |
