It could be as simple as the warbarge before a FW match, but just something that you can 'deploy' to and chat, compare suits, trade gear (if it happens). All with a bit more immersion than just a chat box. Also a super easy way to see who is actually active in chat and not in battle or afk etc..

Thats a good idea. Walk out of one of the doors in your merc quarters into the warbarge and see/talk to anyone else who's there. You could have corp/alliance war barges for people to meet in.

Yeah my initial thought would be corp/alliance because sometimes i'll find myself talking for like half an hour without deploying and just being able to do things during that time would be cool.
Also if there was an actual 'local' it could be used for corp recruitment and you could see stats and suits etc.

Start with Corp meeting halls (on the Warbarge), then Alliance, and then hosting private conferences on your own Warbarge.
Hand/Eye coordination cannot be taught. For everything else there is the Learning Coalition.

Maybe when in a squad your should have the option of staying in your own Merc Quarters, or transferring to the Squad Leader's Warbarge.
Corps might be hard to do especially larger ones. But if they start with the smallest social units at least its a start,
Squads as they exist now just have a chat channel, i believe squad members should appear on the leaders warbarge as you suggest.
Hopefully CCP will bring in larger units as well like platoons as shown in the roadmap - this should also have the same feature - you are all inside your leaders barge.
Anyone getting annoyed by reading of the above post should consider the following.
I don't care so neither should you :)
