Here's a speculative thing. Would it be possible to repurpose the active scanner display thing to show a portrait of your squad members currently equipped suit (and the number of meters they are from you?), and use the 'charge' bar that the scanner has to display their health? Additional bits could show what equipment they currently have, and potentially flash a warning if they're below a certain level of ammo (30%) on their primary weapon or just show the % of ammo they have.
For those who demand as unobtrusive an interface as possible, create a menu option that allows one to toggle the number of allies displayed (0 - 3 with the squad size reduction) or an option to display whatever blues are within say 50m of you.
I think this could address some issues with people who cant/don't use mics or speak different languages and would make it a bit more easy to determine what your allies near you need or are using (Hey my squad is only using nanite injectors / nanohives, maybe I should get some drop uplinks!).

I have always thought there should be an indicator for low ammo. I don't see any problem with the rest of it either if it is at all helpful.

That sounds like a misunderstanding, you wouldn't need a scanner to have this stuff display... It would just some of the same assets that the scanner does currently to display it.

Simple info like squad members health and location would be nice and not require a scanner. Much like MAG and battlefield, Dust should have a small squad info area on the side. This would show squadmates current health, and if callouts like"I need ammo, etc., were implemented." Would appear as some sort of symbol next to their name/portrait. Things like distance one can tell to some degree when they look towards green chevrons and look at the mini map. Maybe if one made a callout, if you were to look at their chevron, would display the distance to their location. This I believe would be a good edition and a better way of doin so.
